Alia Bhatt Enters the World of Tumbbad… Actress Joins Sohum Shah’s Horror Sequel, Release Date Officially Announced

Alia Bhatt is all set to explore a new genre in her acting career. Filmmaker and actor Sohum Shah has officially confirmed that the National Award-winning actress has joined the cast of Tumbbad 2, one of the most anticipated sequels in Indian cinema.

Making the announcement on social media, Sohum Shah shared a series of pictures with Alia and hinted at an exciting “new chapter” for the Tumbbad franchise. Alongside the reveal, the makers also confirmed that Tumbbad 2 will hit theatres on December 3, 2027.

Alia Bhatt’s first horror film

With Tumbbad 2, Alia Bhatt will step into the horror genre for the first time in her 14-year acting career.

According to reports, the actress will play a major role in the sequel rather than making a brief appearance. Her addition significantly raises expectations for the project, which already features Sohum Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in key roles.

While Rahi Anil Barve, who directed the original film, will not return to helm the sequel, he has reportedly parted ways with the project on amicable terms.

Adesh Prasad will direct Tumbbad 2, with reports suggesting that the story will further explore themes of greed, mythology, and immortality that made the first film so distinctive.

The makers have chosen to keep the plot under wraps, adding to the anticipation surrounding the project.

Fresh opportunity after Alpha

The announcement comes shortly after Alia Bhatt’s action thriller Alpha completed its theatrical run.

By joining Tumbbad 2, the actress is taking on a critically acclaimed franchise that already enjoys immense popularity among cinema lovers.
