‘Alpha’ OTT Release: Alia Bhatt-Sharvari Spy Thriller Coming Online on This Date? Here’s What We Know

After making its big-screen debut on July 3, 2026, Alia Bhatt and Sharvari starrer Alpha is now reportedly preparing to enter the digital space. The YRF Spy Universe action thriller could arrive on OTT later this month, giving viewers who missed its theatrical run a chance to watch the franchise’s first female-led spy film from home.

According to a report by 123Telugu, Alpha is expected to begin streaming on Netflix from August 28, 2026. The film will reportedly be available in Hindi initially, while information about Tamil, Telugu and other dubbed versions remains unclear.

There is, however, an important catch for fans waiting to stream the film.

At the time of writing, neither Netflix nor Yash Raj Films has officially announced the reported August 28 OTT release date. Until an official confirmation arrives, the date should therefore be treated as reported rather than final.

What is ‘Alpha’ about?

Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha expands the interconnected world of spies established by Yash Raj Films while shifting the spotlight to two female operatives.

Alia Bhatt plays Sita, a highly trained R&AW operative who undergoes training to become an Alpha soldier. Sharvari, meanwhile, portrays Durga, another operative whose path becomes closely linked with Sita during a dangerous mission.

At the centre of the conflict is Colonel Fateh Singh Lakhawat, portrayed by Bobby Deol. His experiments involving the mysterious Alpha serum become a crucial part of the story, bringing espionage, revenge and high-stakes action together.

The film also features Anil Kapoor as R&AW Chief Vikrant Kaul, while Hrithik Roshan appears as Major Kabir Dhaliwal, connecting the story more directly with the wider YRF Spy Universe.

A new chapter for the YRF Spy Universe

Alpha is particularly significant because it places Alia Bhatt and Sharvari at the centre of a franchise previously dominated by male super-spies.

The cinematic universe began with Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger in 2012 and subsequently expanded through films including Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, Tiger 3 and War 2.

Over the years, the franchise has connected major characters portrayed by Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan. With Alpha, YRF has attempted to widen that universe by introducing female agents as its principal heroes.

How did ‘Alpha’ perform at the box office?

Despite arriving as an important new chapter in the YRF Spy Universe, Alpha reportedly delivered a comparatively modest theatrical performance.

According to figures reported by Sacnilk, the film collected approximately ₹99.10 crore worldwide. Its reported India gross collection stood at around ₹70.05 crore, while overseas markets contributed approximately ₹29.05 crore.

The film’s reported India net collection was approximately ₹58.86 crore.

Its upcoming digital run could now introduce Alpha to a much wider audience, particularly viewers already familiar with the interconnected characters and storylines of the YRF Spy Universe.

When and where can you watch ‘Alpha’ online?

If the latest reports prove accurate, Alpha will stream on Netflix from August 28, 2026, initially in Hindi.

However, viewers should keep in mind that an official announcement from Netflix or Yash Raj Films is still awaited. Confirmation regarding dubbed-language versions is also expected closer to the digital premiere.

For fans of Alia Bhatt, Sharvari and the expanding YRF Spy Universe, all eyes are now on the official announcement and whether August 28 will indeed mark Alpha’s OTT debut.
