Lucknow/Noida: In a significant boost to sustainable public transportation, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday flagged off 45 electric buses and inaugurated the newly developed Noida Electric Bus Depot, marking another step in the state’s transition towards green mobility.

The launch is part of the government’s larger plan to deploy 110 electric buses across key urban corridors by June 15, improving connectivity and reducing dependence on conventional fuel-powered vehicles.

Speaking at the event, Yogi Adityanath highlighted the importance of electric mobility in creating a cleaner and more efficient transportation ecosystem. He said the new fleet would play a crucial role in strengthening last-mile connectivity, especially in rapidly growing regions such as Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area.

The newly launched buses will serve passengers travelling between important destinations, including Jewar’s Noida International Airport, residential hubs, administrative centres, and major transit points. Officials stated that the buses will operate on four strategic routes connecting Botanical Garden, Greater Noida West, Surajpur Collectorate, Noida International Airport, and Ghaziabad’s New Bus Adda.

To support the growing electric fleet, the Noida depot has been equipped with 30 charging stations, ensuring smooth operations and quicker turnaround times for buses.

Push Towards Electric Mobility

The Chief Minister also underlined the state’s efforts to become a manufacturing hub for electric vehicles. According to him, major automobile companies such as Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland have established manufacturing facilities in Uttar Pradesh, strengthening the state’s position in India’s evolving EV ecosystem.

Officials revealed that among the proposed fleet of 110 buses, 10 will be double-decker electric buses, offering higher passenger capacity and modern commuting options.

Focus On Environment And Affordable Travel

The government believes that expanding electric public transport will help reduce carbon emissions, lower fuel consumption, and provide cost-effective travel solutions for commuters.

Welcoming the initiative, BJP MP Mahesh Sharma said the move comes at a crucial time when countries around the world are looking for sustainable transportation alternatives.

He noted that cleaner mobility solutions would not only improve urban transportation but also contribute to environmental conservation and energy security.

Addressing Traffic Challenges

During the event, concerns regarding traffic congestion in parts of Noida, particularly around the Mahamaya Flyover, were also discussed. Responding to the issue, Mahesh Sharma said the government is actively working on measures to remove bottlenecks and improve traffic flow, especially with the upcoming expansion of connectivity around the Noida International Airport corridor.

The latest initiative reflects the Uttar Pradesh government’s broader vision of modernising public transport infrastructure while balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility. As electric mobility gains momentum across India, the state’s latest fleet expansion is expected to make daily commuting smoother, cleaner, and more accessible for thousands of passengers.
