Historic Takeoff, First Commercial Flight Lands at Noida Airport in Jewar, A New Era for UP Aviation Begins
IndiGo’s inaugural Lucknow flight marks the official start of operations at Noida International Airport, boosting regional connectivity.
Noida International Airport officially began commercial operations on Monday, with its first passenger flight landing to applause and celebration.
The inaugural flight — IndiGo 6E-2278 — departed from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport and touched down in Jewar at 7:55 AM, marking a historic milestone for Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure growth.
A Grand Welcome for the First Flight
As the aircraft landed, passengers onboard broke into applause, celebrating the successful journey and the beginning of a new chapter.
Adding to the occasion, the flight received a ceremonial water cannon salute, a traditional aviation gesture reserved for special inaugural or milestone flights.
This moment symbolised not just a landing, but the takeoff of a long-awaited aviation dream.
Flight Operations and Connectivity Boost
The return journey — IndiGo flight 6E-2279 — is scheduled to depart from Jewar at 6:55 PM and arrive in Lucknow by 8:00 PM, establishing a crucial air link between two key cities of Uttar Pradesh.
Until now, passengers traveling between Noida and Lucknow largely depended on routes via Indira Gandhi International Airport or opted for long road journeys.
The new direct connection is expected to significantly cut travel time and improve convenience.

More Airlines Join the Network
The airport’s operations are set to expand rapidly. Akasa Air will begin daily flights from Tuesday, connecting Noida with major cities like Bengaluru and Navi Mumbai.
This makes Akasa Air the second airline to operate from the airport, signalling growing confidence in the new aviation hub.
Cargo Operations Set to Begin
While passenger services have commenced, cargo operations are not far behind.
According to Noida International Airport Limited, the first domestic cargo flight is scheduled for June 17.

This dual capability — passenger and cargo — positions the airport as a strategic logistics and transport hub.
A Strategic Infrastructure Milestone
The airport, inaugurated earlier this year by Narendra Modi, has been developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG.
Officials believe this development will:
- Strengthen regional connectivity
- Boost economic growth in Uttar Pradesh
- Reduce congestion at Delhi’s airport
A New Aviation Hub Takes Flight
The launch of commercial operations at Noida International Airport is more than just infrastructure — it is a symbol of India’s rapid modernization.
With expanding routes, increasing airline participation, and upcoming cargo services, the airport is poised to become one of North India’s key aviation gateways.
