Air India has received DGCA approval to implement Electronic Technical Logbooks across its Boeing 787 fleet, marking a major step in its digital transformation journey.

In a significant milestone for India’s aviation sector, Air India has received approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to use Electronic Technical Logbooks (ETL) as the primary technical documentation system for its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet.

The approval also allows the airline to begin parallel implementation of the digital logbook system across its Boeing 777 aircraft, marking another important step in Air India’s ongoing transformation under the Tata Group.

A Shift Towards Smarter Aviation Operations

With this move, Air India becomes one of the first airlines to deploy Electronic Technical Logbooks across its entire Boeing 787 widebody fleet.

The digital platform replaces traditional paper-based aircraft maintenance records with real-time electronic documentation, helping engineers, pilots and maintenance teams access critical operational information more quickly and accurately.

The initiative is expected to improve operational efficiency while enhancing maintenance quality and reducing administrative workload.

Commenting on the development, Jeremy Yew Jin Kit, Senior Vice President – Engineering & Maintenance at Air India, said the successful implementation reflects close coordination between engineering teams, flight operations, digital technology experts, aircraft manufacturers and the aviation regulator.

According to him, replacing conventional paperwork with real-time digital information strengthens maintenance governance, improves regulatory compliance and enables quicker operational decisions across the airline.
