Motorola Edge 70 Max Review: Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, 144Hz Display, 7,100mAh Battery & Camera Performance
The Motorola Edge 70 Max combines flagship-grade gaming performance, a 144Hz AMOLED display, premium durability, and a massive 7,100mAh battery.

For years, Motorola has earned praise for delivering clean software and dependable smartphones, but rarely has it seriously challenged premium Android flagships. The Motorola Edge 70 Max changes that narrative.

Priced from ₹54,999, the Edge 70 Max enters the premium segment with impressive specifications, including the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, a high-resolution AMOLED display, a huge battery, advanced cooling technology, and AI-powered features.

After spending several days using it as a primary device, one thing becomes clear—this is Motorola’s boldest flagship effort in years.

A Fresh Design That Feels Truly Premium

The Edge 70 Max moves away from the curved aesthetics seen on previous Edge smartphones.

Instead, Motorola has opted for a flat aluminium frame paired with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i on both the front and rear, giving the phone a more industrial yet premium appearance.

One notable addition is the dedicated motoAI button, providing instant access to Motorola’s artificial intelligence features without navigating through multiple menus. It quickly becomes a useful shortcut for everyday tasks.

The phone also impresses on the durability front with:

  • IP69 dust and water resistance
  • MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability certification

These certifications make the Edge 70 Max one of the toughest premium smartphones currently available.

The only downside is its size. Weighing just over 221 grams and measuring 8.29mm thick, the phone feels noticeably heavier than many competing flagship devices.

One of the Best Displays in Its Segment

The smartphone features a 6.8-inch QHD+ AMOLED display, and it’s arguably one of the biggest highlights of the device.

Display specifications include:

  • 1,440 × 3,168 resolution
  • 144Hz adaptive refresh rate
  • 10-bit colour support
  • HDR10+
  • 360Hz touch sampling rate
  • Peak brightness of up to 7,000 nits

Whether watching HDR movies, editing photos, or playing high-frame-rate games, the panel consistently delivers vibrant colours, deep contrast, and exceptional sharpness.

Outdoor visibility also remains excellent, while the ultra-slim bezels provide an immersive viewing experience.

Performance Built for Serious Gaming

The Edge 70 Max is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, paired with up to:

  • 12GB LPDDR5X RAM
  • 256GB UFS 4.1 storage

Daily performance feels effortless. Applications launch instantly, multitasking remains smooth, and even demanding tasks like editing 4K HDR videos are handled without noticeable slowdowns.

Gaming, however, is where the phone truly shines.

Motorola’s 5,500mm² ArcticMesh vapour chamber cooling system allows extended gaming sessions with minimal thermal throttling.

Popular titles such as:

  • BGMI
  • Call of Duty: Mobile

ran comfortably at 120fps, maintaining stable frame rates even during prolonged sessions.

Although the device becomes warm around the camera module during intensive workloads, performance remains consistently strong without significant drops in responsiveness.

Capable Cameras With One Noticeable Compromise

Instead of loading the phone with multiple sensors, Motorola has focused on delivering a balanced camera system.

The setup includes:

Dainik Diary AQDAS 2026 07 16T164721.214

  • 50MP Sony LYTIA 710 primary camera with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS)
  • 8MP ultra-wide camera
  • 32MP front camera

The primary camera captures detailed images with natural colours and strong dynamic range in daylight.

Low-light photography remains respectable, though image quality naturally declines compared to daytime performance.

The ultra-wide camera maintains consistent colour reproduction with the main sensor, making landscape photography look natural.

The one omission is a dedicated telephoto camera.

Zoom photography relies on digital cropping, producing acceptable results up to around 2x magnification before image quality begins to soften.

On the front, the 32MP selfie camera stands out with excellent skin tones and reliable portrait edge detection.

Huge Battery With Fast Charging

Battery life is another standout feature.

The 7,100mAh battery comfortably lasts an entire day—even under heavy usage involving gaming, video streaming, photography, and social media.

Charging options include:

  • 90W wired fast charging
  • 25W Qi 2.2 magnetic wireless charging
  • 5W reverse wired charging

Motorola is also among the few Android brands currently supporting Qi 2.2 magnetic wireless charging, opening compatibility with a growing range of magnetic accessories.

Software Experience

The Edge 70 Max ships with Android 16, running Motorola’s HelloUI interface alongside the complete suite of motoAI features.

The interface remains clean, responsive, and free from excessive pre-installed applications.

However, Motorola promises:

  • 3 Android OS upgrades
  • 5 years of security updates

While respectable, this update policy falls short of several competitors offering longer software support in the premium segment.

Verdict

The Motorola Edge 70 Max represents a significant step forward for the Edge series.

It combines flagship-level performance, one of the best displays in its class, excellent battery life, premium construction, and effective cooling into a package that is clearly designed with gamers and power users in mind.

There are a few compromises. The phone is heavier than many rivals, lacks a dedicated telephoto camera, and offers a shorter software support commitment compared to some competing flagship devices.

Even so, these shortcomings do little to overshadow what is otherwise a remarkably complete smartphone.

For users seeking flagship performance, premium build quality, long battery life, and a gaming-first experience without venturing into ultra-premium pricing, the Motorola Edge 70 Max makes a compelling case as one of Motorola’s strongest smartphones to date.
