Purvanchal gets a rail boost… “Delhi now just a ride away?” New trains from June 19 shake up connectivity in UP
Indian Railways rolls out new and extended services including direct Delhi links from Mau and Chhapra, promising faster travel and stronger regional growth across eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Eastern Uttar Pradesh is set for a major connectivity upgrade as the Indian Railways announces the introduction and extension of multiple train services from June 19, aimed at strengthening transport links across the Purvanchal region.
The move comes after repeated requests and coordination efforts led by Arvind Kumar Sharma, and is being seen as a significant step toward improving long-distance and regional rail access for millions of passengers.
A direct push for better connectivity in Purvanchal
One of the most notable changes is the extension of the newly introduced Dohrighat–Aunrihar MEMU train, which will now run up to Varanasi City, a key railway and cultural hub. The extension is expected to ease daily travel for commuters moving between smaller districts and major urban centres.
With Varanasi already acting as a major transit point, the extension is likely to reduce congestion on road routes while improving last-mile rail accessibility.
Direct trains to Delhi from Mau and Chhapra
In another major development, the Mau–Anand Vihar (Delhi) train will now operate as a regular service from Mau, offering passengers a direct and reliable link to the national capital.
For thousands of daily commuters, students, and working professionals travelling between eastern UP and Delhi, this service removes the long-standing dependency on multiple connecting routes.

Adding to this, Indian Railways will also introduce a new Chhapra–Anand Vihar train via Mau, further strengthening the Delhi corridor while improving interstate connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
What this means for passengers
These new and extended services are not just about convenience—they represent a broader effort to modernise regional rail infrastructure. Officials believe the expanded network will directly benefit:
- Daily commuters travelling for work and education
- Traders dependent on faster intercity movement
- Long-distance passengers heading to Delhi and other metro cities
The improvements are also expected to ease pressure on existing trains, many of which remain heavily booked throughout the year.
A step toward regional development
Rail experts note that enhanced connectivity often plays a silent but powerful role in regional development. Better rail access means improved trade flow, stronger mobility, and increased opportunities for smaller towns to connect with larger economic centres.
With Purvanchal now receiving fresh attention through these upgrades, the region could see gradual but meaningful economic and social shifts in the coming years.
For passengers across eastern Uttar Pradesh, the message is clear—train travel is about to become faster, more direct, and significantly more convenient.
