Vaishnaw & Fadnavis to Inaugurate Pune–Danapur Amrit Bharat Express: New Train Details Explained

Rail connectivity between western India and the eastern heartland is set for a major upgrade. In a significant development for commuters and long-distance travellers, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis are scheduled to jointly inaugurate two new trains from Pune on Wednesday.

Among the highlights is the much-anticipated Pune–Danapur Amrit Bharat Express, a service that directly connects Maharashtra’s bustling IT and industrial hub with Bihar’s Danapur, improving mobility for thousands of passengers who travel this route regularly.

Train to originate from Hadapsar station

According to railway officials, the new Amrit Bharat Express will originate from Hadapsar Railway Station, marking an important operational shift aimed at easing congestion at Pune Junction.

The inauguration ceremony will take place simultaneously at Pune and Hadapsar stations, with participation from senior railway officials and state representatives.

While the final timetable is still being finalised, the service is expected to soon become a key addition to India’s growing long-distance rail network.

What makes the Amrit Bharat Express special?

The new Amrit Bharat Express series is designed to bridge the gap between affordable travel and modern rail comfort.

Although it offers features inspired by premium trains like the Vande Bharat Express, there is a key difference — it is a non-AC service.

The train will include:

  • Sleeper-class coaches
  • General seating coaches
  • Modern onboard amenities
  • Improved ride comfort and safety features

This model is specifically aimed at middle-income and budget-conscious passengers who want better facilities without paying premium fares.

Strengthening Pune–North India connectivity

The Pune–Danapur route holds strategic importance due to heavy passenger movement between Maharashtra and Bihar. Thousands of workers, students, and families travel this corridor every month, especially during festive seasons.

With the introduction of the Amrit Bharat Express, Indian Railways aims to provide:

  • More affordable long-distance travel
  • Increased seat availability
  • Better frequency on high-demand routes

Part of a bigger railway transformation

The launch also reflects Indian Railways’ broader push to modernise passenger travel across the country. Over the past few years, services like Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, and upgraded long-distance express trains have reshaped expectations around rail travel in India.

The focus now is not just speed, but also accessibility — ensuring that modern rail upgrades are not limited to premium passengers alone.

Why this matters for everyday travellers

For daily passengers and migrant workers, especially those commuting between Maharashtra and Bihar, this new train could significantly reduce travel strain during peak seasons.

The combination of affordability and improved comfort may make the Amrit Bharat Express one of the most practical long-distance rail options in its category.
