Mohan Bhagwat to Face Gen Z Questions on NEET, Protests and Unemployment… RSS Chief to Break Tradition at Mumbai Youth Event

In a first-of-its-kind interaction, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is set to engage directly with more than 2,000 Gen Z and Gen Alpha students at the India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN) Annual Championship Conference in Mumbai on August 6. Unlike his traditional public addresses, Bhagwat will take part in a moderated question-and-answer session where students are expected to raise issues ranging from the NEET controversy and student protests to unemployment, education and healthcare.

The event comes at a time when education reforms and competitive examinations remain at the centre of national debate following the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination.

Invitation Sent Six Months Ago, Says IIMUN Founder

Responding to speculation that Bhagwat’s participation was linked to the recent nationwide protests over the NEET paper leak, IIMUN founder and president Rishabh Shah clarified that the invitation had been extended nearly six months ago.

According to Shah, Bhagwat accepted the invitation well before the controversy surrounding the examination emerged, making it clear that the interaction was part of the organisation’s annual calendar rather than a response to current political developments.

He explained that IIMUN’s annual championship is organised every August after regional conferences held across 108 cities in 15 countries, culminating in the flagship event in Mumbai.

RSS Chief to Break From Traditional Speech Format

One of the biggest highlights of this year’s conference will be Bhagwat’s willingness to move away from his customary speech format.

Shah revealed that the organisers specifically requested the Sarsanghchalak to participate in an interactive dialogue instead of delivering a one-way address. Bhagwat reportedly agreed to the proposal, making this interaction potentially the first moderated public Q&A session with a youth audience during his tenure.

The organisers have collected questions from students on several contemporary issues, including education, protests, healthcare, unemployment and other matters affecting young Indians.

Youth Issues to Take Centre Stage

The interaction is expected to reflect the concerns of India’s younger generation, particularly after the nationwide demonstrations over the alleged NEET paper leak. The protests intensified demands for greater transparency in competitive examinations and sparked wider conversations around the country’s education system.

Besides education, students are also expected to seek Bhagwat’s views on employment opportunities, healthcare and the role of young citizens in shaping India’s future.

Third Appearance at IIMUN

While this will be Bhagwat’s first moderated interaction with students at the event, it is not his first association with IIMUN.

According to the organisers, he previously attended the conference during the 2016-17 and 2020-21 editions. However, this year’s event has drawn greater public attention because of its exclusive focus on Gen Z and Gen Alpha participants and the national conversation surrounding education.

More Than 2,000 Students to Attend

The inaugural session will be held at Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai, where students aged between 15 and 19 years from over 100 cities are expected to participate.

The conference is centred around the theme, “The Role of Youth in Uniting the World, the Indian Way,” highlighting the importance of young voices in addressing national and global challenges.

With education, competitive examinations and employment dominating discussions across the country, Bhagwat’s interaction is expected to be closely watched for his responses to questions from India’s next generation.
