Mustafa Zahid to Return for Awarapan 2? Report Says Makers Want Original Voice of ‘Tera Mera Rishta’ Amid Pakistan Boycott
The reported collaboration may be limited to promotional content rather than the film itself, as the makers reportedly explore bringing back the singer behind one of the franchise’s most iconic songs.
Nearly two decades after “Tera Mera Rishta” became one of the most memorable tracks from Awarapan, reports suggest that its original singer, Mustafa Zahid, could reunite with the franchise for Awarapan 2.
According to a report by Mid-day, the Pakistani singer is currently in discussions with producers Mukesh Bhatt and Vishesh Bhatt to record a recreated version of the iconic song. If the collaboration moves forward, it would mark one of the rare cross-border musical associations in mainstream Bollywood in recent years.
Song May Be Used Only for Promotions
The report states that while discussions are underway, the recreated version of “Tera Mera Rishta” may not feature in the theatrical version of Awarapan 2.
Instead, the makers are reportedly considering using the song exclusively for social media campaigns and promotional activities to avoid potential certification complications.
A source quoted by the publication said that the collaboration is still awaiting approval from both sides and has not been finalised.
Cross-Border Collaboration Draws Attention
The reported development has attracted attention because Pakistani artists have largely remained absent from mainstream Hindi cinema following industry decisions taken after the 2016 Uri terror attack, which were further reinforced after the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack.

If confirmed, Mustafa Zahid’s return would be among the few instances of a Pakistani playback singer lending his voice to a major Hindi film project in recent years.
Emraan Hashmi Returns as Shivam Pandit
The trailer of Awarapan 2, released on August 6, marks the return of Emraan Hashmi as Shivam Pandit, nearly 19 years after the original film.
The sequel promises another emotionally driven story revolving around revenge, redemption and unresolved conflicts.
Joining Emraan in the cast are Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Puran Gabbi, Anirudh Rawal, Surendar Vicky, Vijayant Kohli, and Atul Kumar.

Music Remains the Soul of the Franchise
Music has always been a defining element of the Awarapan series, and the sequel continues that tradition with a soundtrack composed by Mithoon, Jeet Gannguli, Amaal Malik, Ankit Sachdev, and Wasif Ahmad.
The lyrics have been penned by Sayeed Qadri, Rashmi Virag, Akhil Sachdeva, and Sachin Singh Chandel.
Interestingly, the recently released trailer already features a recreated version of “Tera Mera Rishta”, sung by Saaj Bhatt and Subodhh Sharma, with Mithoon returning as composer.
Fans Await Official Confirmation
Presented by Mukesh Bhatt and Vishesh Films, and directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
Although Mustafa Zahid’s reported involvement has not yet been officially confirmed, the possibility has already generated excitement among fans, many of whom still consider “Tera Mera Rishta” one of the most iconic romantic tracks in Bollywood’s modern era.
