Stree 3 Release Delayed: Dinesh Vijan Reveals New 2028 Window, Teases ‘Complete Revelation’
Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor fans may have to wait longer for Stree 3. Producer Dinesh Vijan says the horror-comedy sequel is now expected in 2028, with Independence Day or Christmas emerging as possible release windows.
After the third instalment of the hugely popular horror-comedy franchise was previously announced for August 13, 2027, producer Dinesh Vijan has now indicated that the film is likely to arrive sometime in 2028.
Speaking during a panel discussion alongside Rajkummar Rao, Vijan shared an update on the film’s production schedule and explained why director Amar Kaushik will need more time before returning to the world of Stree.
Why could Stree 3 be delayed until 2028?
According to Vijan, Amar Kaushik is currently occupied with Mahavatar, which the producer described as one of their most ambitious projects.
Vijan said Kaushik is expected to finish that film around June, after which work can move towards getting Stree 3 on floors toward the end of the following year.
“Stree 3 arrives in 2028,” Vijan said while discussing the production timeline.
His comments represent a significant change from the previously announced August 13, 2027 release date. However, a final date for the third film has not yet been confirmed.
Independence Day or Christmas release?
While Vijan stopped short of announcing an exact date, he did offer fans two intriguing possibilities.
The producer suggested that Stree 3 could become either an Independence Day or Christmas release in 2028.
That leaves two potentially major theatrical windows for the film, though fans will have to wait for an official announcement from Maddock Films before marking their calendars.
Stree 3 script is already ready
The delay doesn’t mean the project is stuck at the writing stage.
Vijan revealed that the Stree 3 script has already been written, but carefully avoided revealing what happens next in the horror-comedy universe.

In fact, he warned audiences to forget their existing theories about the third instalment.
“Anything that you thought, remove from your mind,” Vijan teased.
He further suggested that the upcoming film would retain the elements audiences have loved about the franchise while delivering something unexpected.
According to the producer, where the story begins and where it eventually ends will be a “complete revelation.”
What could happen in Stree 3?
Plot details remain firmly under wraps, and Vijan’s comments suggest the makers want to preserve the mystery surrounding the next chapter.
That secrecy is particularly significant after Stree 2, which expanded the mythology surrounding Chanderi and connected the story more deeply with Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe.
Rather than simply repeating the formula of the previous films, the makers appear to be preparing another major development in the franchise’s larger storyline.

The Stree franchise began in 2018, with Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor leading a horror-comedy that mixed supernatural scares with humour and social commentary.
Its sequel, Stree 2, arrived in 2024 and further expanded the interconnected supernatural universe.
The broader Maddock Horror Comedy Universe also includes titles such as Bhediya and Munjya, with characters and storylines increasingly crossing into one another.
Now all attention is turning towards Stree 3.
If Dinesh Vijan’s latest timeline holds, audiences will have to wait until 2028 to discover what Amar Kaushik has planned. And with the producer promising a “complete revelation,” the third instalment may have much more up its sleeve than fans currently expect.
