R Madhavan Stands by Hollywood Critique Despite Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Success: ‘I’m Not Awestruck Anymore’

R Madhavan has once again shared his candid views on modern Hollywood, reiterating that while he appreciates landmark releases such as Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, he no longer feels the same admiration for American cinema that he once did.

Speaking in a recent conversation with The Hindu, the National Award-winning actor welcomed the decision to premiere The Odyssey in India, calling it a positive step for the country’s growing importance in the global film market.

‘Good for India,’ says Madhavan

Reacting to the India premiere of Christopher Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey, Madhavan said it reflects the increasing significance of Indian audiences for global studios.”Good for India. I mean, they are able to respect what we are able to do for them,” the actor said.

He also acknowledged the film’s commercial success, adding that “The movie is doing really well.”

‘I’m Not Awestruck by Hollywood Anymore’

While praising the India premiere, Madhavan maintained that his excitement for Hollywood has diminished over the years.

“I am still not as awestruck by Hollywood the way I was earlier,” he said, explaining that many recent English-language films have not left the same lasting impression on him as classics from previous decades.

According to the actor, films like Inception, Interstellar, A Few Good Men, The Shawshank Redemption, As Good As It Gets, and Pretty Woman played a significant role in shaping him as a film enthusiast.

Classic Films Still Stay With Him

Madhavan revealed that memorable performances and dialogues from older Hollywood films continue to stay with him even today.

Recalling Al Pacino’s performance in The Devil’s Advocate, he said he still remembers the actor’s dialogue delivery despite watching the film only once or twice.

The actor believes that such memorable characters and performances have become increasingly rare in recent years.

‘That Era Is Gone’

Summing up his perspective, Madhavan remarked that modern Hollywood hasn’t created many unforgettable cinematic moments for him.

“I feel that era is gone. I am not able to remember dialogues or characters in the last decade or so that I thought are phenomenal,” he said.

Earlier Criticism of Hollywood Films

Madhavan’s latest remarks are consistent with opinions he expressed in an earlier interview, where he had questioned the impact of recent Hollywood productions, including Oppenheimer and Joker: Folie à Deux.

While acknowledging the technical brilliance and global success of films like The Odyssey, the actor believes the emotional depth and iconic storytelling associated with Hollywood’s golden years remain unmatched.
