Hyundai i20 goes full SUV mode… Brazil debut leaks ‘radical’ new look, 2027 India launch hinted!

The global auto scene just got a jolt of excitement as Hyundai Motor Company pulled the wraps off the all-new fourth-generation Hyundai i20 in Brazil. And if early visuals are anything to go by, this isn’t just an update—it feels like a complete identity shift.

Gone is the soft, familiar hatchback silhouette. In its place stands a much more aggressive, SUV-inspired design language that immediately grabs attention. The new i20 now looks taller, wider, and far more muscular, almost blurring the line between a premium hatchback and a compact crossover.

A design that refuses to blend in

The most noticeable change is the boxier stance and connected LED lighting setup that stretches across the front and rear. The front grille is sharper, the bonnet more sculpted, and the overall proportions now give it a road presence that earlier generations simply didn’t have. Auto experts are already calling it the biggest visual transformation in the model’s history.

Inside: tech takes the front seat

Step inside and the story continues with a heavy focus on digitalisation. The cabin now features a curved dual-screen layout that merges the infotainment system with the digital instrument cluster. Wireless smartphone connectivity, multiple fast-charging ports, and improved cabin ergonomics are all part of the package.

More importantly, the new Hyundai i20 is expected to bring Level 2 ADAS features—something that could redefine safety expectations in India’s premium hatchback segment.

India launch still some time away

While the global debut has created a buzz, the India-spec version is expected to arrive only around 2027. When it does, it is likely to retain familiar petrol engine options, tuned for Indian road and fuel conditions.

However, the design and tech overhaul could make things extremely competitive for existing favourites like Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, and Toyota Glanza, all of which currently dominate the premium hatchback space.

What makes this i20 different?

This isn’t just a facelift—it’s a repositioning. Hyundai seems to be pushing the i20 closer to the crossover segment, a space where buyers are increasingly demanding SUV-like styling without moving to a full SUV price bracket.

If the final India version stays true to what was unveiled in Brazil, the segment may be headed for its most aggressive shake-up in years.
