The facelifted BMW 7 Series and all-electric i7 will launch in India on September 11, bringing revised styling, a new digital cabin and upgraded powertrains.

BMW India is preparing to strengthen its flagship luxury sedan portfolio with the launch of the updated BMW 7 Series and all-electric BMW i7 on September 11, 2026.

Bookings for both models have already been open since August 1, with the facelifts bringing significant changes to their exterior styling, cabin technology, comfort features and powertrains.

The launch will form part of an aggressive year for the German luxury carmaker, which has outlined plans for 25 product launches in India during 2026.

And while the 7 Series continues to focus heavily on limousine-style luxury, the updated i7 M70 xDrive has another headline figure to grab attention up to 1,100 Nm of torque.

New face for the BMW 7 Series

The facelifted BMW 7 Series gets a visibly redesigned front fascia.

Its massive kidney grille remains central to the design but now features illumination for an even more distinctive appearance after dark.

BMW has also redesigned the split-headlight arrangement. Slimmer upper lighting elements serve as the daytime running lights, while the main headlamp units sit lower down in the bumper.

The familiar long-wheelbase silhouette and flush-fitting door handles remain, but buyers will get fresh alloy-wheel designs.

One of the more unusual new styling touches is an illuminated and embossed “7” motif on the B-pillar, adding another visual signature to BMW’s flagship sedan.

Rear design gets slimmer lights and new detailing

Changes continue at the back.

The facelift receives slimmer tail-lamps extending further into the tailgate, along with a redesigned bumper featuring diffuser-style detailing.

New chrome accents and smoked lighting elements further distinguish the updated car from the outgoing version.

While BMW hasn’t completely reinvented the 7 Series’ proportions, the detailed styling revisions are intended to give the flagship a fresher and more contemporary identity.

Three displays transform the dashboard

The bigger changes become apparent once you step inside.

BMW has substantially revised the dashboard with a new multi-display arrangement.

At the centre is a large 17.9-inch touchscreen, joined by a 14.6-inch passenger display.

There is also a full-width projected driver information display positioned at the base of the windscreen, creating a more digitally intensive cockpit than before.

The system runs the latest BMW Operating System X and supports over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with enhanced voice-control functionality.

A new four-spoke steering wheel also makes its debut on the flagship sedan.

31.3-inch Theatre Screen keeps rear passengers entertained

Despite the technology up front, the 7 Series remains heavily focused on passengers sitting in the back.

One of its signature features is the enormous 31.3-inch Theatre Screen, designed to turn the rear cabin into a private entertainment space.

The screen supports functions including streaming, video calling and gaming.

Other luxury features include a Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System, updated ambient lighting, powered and heated rear armrests and massage functionality.

For customers who primarily use their flagship sedan with a chauffeur, these rear-seat features could remain among the strongest reasons to consider the 7 Series.

BMW 740i xDrive now makes 400 hp

The facelift isn’t only about screens and styling.

The BMW 740i xDrive continues with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine, but output has increased to 400 hp and 580 Nm of torque.

The 740d xDrive, meanwhile, retains its 3.0-litre six-cylinder mild-hybrid diesel engine, now producing 313 hp and 670 Nm.

Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive.

BMW i7 gets a bigger 112.4 kWh battery

The electric BMW i7 receives some equally important upgrades.

The previous i7 50 eDrive makes way for the new i7 50 xDrive, bringing all-wheel drive alongside a larger 112.4 kWh battery pack.

The i7 50 xDrive produces 455 hp and 660 Nm of torque.

Sitting above it is the performance-focused BMW i7 M70 xDrive, which also adopts the larger battery.

Its output rises to a substantial 680 hp, while peak torque can reach an enormous 1,100 Nm.

That figure gives BMW’s luxury electric limousine performance numbers more commonly associated with dedicated high-performance EVs.

Prices coming on September 11

BMW has yet to reveal how much the updated 7 Series and i7 will cost in India.

Official pricing will be announced when the cars launch on September 11, although bookings are already underway.

The flagship sedans will continue competing with models such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and electric Mercedes-Benz EQS.

Pricing and variant equipment will therefore play a major role in determining how competitive the refreshed models are in India’s relatively small but prestigious flagship luxury segment.

BMW also preparing i5 Long Wheelbase for India

The 7 Series and i7 aren’t BMW’s only major India introductions.

The company has also unveiled the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase ahead of its expected September launch.

The electric luxury sedan will become BMW India’s second locally assembled EV and will initially be offered as a First Edition limited to 99 customers.

It uses a rear-mounted electric motor producing 268 bhp and can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 6.7 seconds.

An 81.6 kWh battery pack provides a claimed driving range of up to 669 km under the MIDC cycle.

BMW’s India portfolio is getting bigger and longer

BMW’s growing focus on long-wheelbase vehicles has already been demonstrated with the recently introduced X1 Long Wheelbase, priced from ₹49.90 lakh ex-showroom.

The stretched SUV is 116 mm longer than the standard X1 and gets a 108 mm increase in wheelbase, with the additional dimensions primarily aimed at improving rear passenger space.

Against that backdrop, the upcoming 7 Series, i7 and i5 LWB underline BMW’s strategy of combining electrification and technology with the rear-seat comfort particularly valued by luxury buyers in India.

All eyes now turn to September 11, when BMW will reveal exactly how much its upgraded flagship experience will cost.
