Alia Bhatt breaks silence on privilege debate: ‘I’m allowed to dream and believe in myself’
As conversations around nepotism and privilege continue in Bollywood, Alia Bhatt opens up about her upbringing, passion for acting, and the challenges she has faced despite coming from a film family.
Alia Bhatt has once again addressed one of the most discussed topics surrounding her career privilege and nepotism in the Hindi film industry.
The actress, who is the daughter of acclaimed filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and is often associated with filmmaker Karan Johar, spoke candidly about her journey, acknowledging the advantages she was born with while emphasizing that success still comes with its own set of struggles.
In a recent interview, Alia reflected on her lifelong dream of becoming an actor and revealed that her fascination with cinema began long before she stepped onto a film set.
“I have been acting in front of the mirror since childhood,” Alia shared, recalling how films and performances inspired her from a young age.
The actress remembered growing up watching Bollywood stars and being captivated by the magic of the big screen. She particularly mentioned enjoying the performances of actors like Govinda and Karisma Kapoor, which further strengthened her desire to pursue acting professionally.
Alia Bhatt on Privilege and Public Perception
Over the years, Alia has frequently found herself at the center of debates surrounding nepotism, with critics pointing to her family background and industry connections as factors behind her success.
Addressing the issue, the actress acknowledged that her journey has been different from many others trying to make it in Bollywood.
“I do understand that I come from a place of privilege,” she said, adding that she is aware of the opportunities that were available to her because of her background.
However, Alia stressed that privilege does not eliminate personal challenges, disappointments, or moments of self-doubt.
According to the actress, everyone experiences difficult phases regardless of where they come from, and during such moments, self-belief becomes the most important tool.
“There are tough days for everyone. On those days, you have to remind yourself that you are allowed to dream and believe in yourself,” she explained.

A Career Built on Passion for Acting
Since making her debut with Student of the Year in 2012, Alia Bhatt has evolved into one of Bollywood’s most successful and versatile performers.
From emotionally driven roles in films like Highway, Raazi, and Gangubai Kathiawadi to commercial entertainers, the actress has consistently expanded her range and established herself as a leading force in the industry.
Her latest comments suggest that while she recognizes the privileges that came with her upbringing, she also views acting as a genuine passion rather than simply a career choice handed to her.

Focus Shifts to YRF Spy Universe Film ‘Alpha’
Meanwhile, Alia is currently busy promoting her upcoming action-thriller Alpha, one of the most anticipated projects in Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe.
The film features an ensemble cast including Sharvari, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor, while the trailer has already generated significant buzz among fans.
Adding to the excitement, the teaser also confirmed a special appearance by Hrithik Roshan, who returns as Major Kabir, a character popularized in the blockbuster spy franchise.
Alpha joins a successful lineup of YRF spy films that includes Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, Tiger 3, and the upcoming War 2.
As anticipation builds around the film’s release, Alia Bhatt continues to balance conversations about privilege with a career that remains firmly in the spotlight.
