The Mercedes-AMG E53 Plug-in Hybrid will launch in India on July 23 with up to 612 hp, a plug-in hybrid powertrain and a claimed electric-only range of over 100 km.

Mercedes-Benz India is gearing up to launch the Mercedes-AMG E53 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) in the country on July 23, 2026. The performance-oriented luxury sedan marks the return of the E53 nameplate to the Indian market, this time with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Pre-bookings are expected to open shortly after the official launch, while customer deliveries are likely to begin during the upcoming festive season.

Industry estimates suggest the new Mercedes-AMG E53 could be priced at around ₹2 crore (ex-showroom).

Aggressive AMG styling inside and out

Based on the latest-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the AMG version receives several exclusive design upgrades.

The exterior features an illuminated AMG Panamericana grille, larger air intakes, flared wheel arches, sporty side skirts, a subtle ducktail spoiler, rear diffuser and signature quad exhaust outlets.

Customers opting for the AMG Dynamic Plus Package will also receive distinctive red brake calipers and a performance-oriented AMG steering wheel wrapped in premium microfibre.

Inside, the cabin features AMG sports seats, red contrast stitching, model-specific MBUX graphics, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14.4-inch infotainment touchscreen. International models also offer an optional MBUX Superscreen for the front passenger.

Powerful hybrid performance

The new Mercedes-AMG E53 PHEV combines a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine with an electric motor integrated into the 9-speed automatic transmission.

Together, the hybrid system delivers a combined output of 585 hp and 750 Nm of torque.

Buyers choosing the AMG Dynamic Plus Package will benefit from an even more powerful setup, increasing output to 612 hp with the help of Race Start mode.

Mercedes claims the high-performance sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, while its electronically limited top speed reaches 280 km/h.

Over 100 km electric driving range

One of the biggest highlights of the new E53 Hybrid is its 21.2 kWh battery pack, which offers a claimed electric-only range exceeding 100 kilometres.

The vehicle can also operate in full EV mode at speeds of up to 140 km/h, allowing for emission-free city driving under suitable conditions.

Charging support includes an 11 kW AC charger, while international markets also receive a 60 kW DC fast-charging option capable of charging the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes.

Luxury performance without a direct rival

The Mercedes-AMG E53 Plug-in Hybrid enters the Indian market without a direct competitor in the plug-in hybrid performance sedan segment.

However, in terms of pricing and performance, it is expected to compete with premium sports sedans such as the BMW M3 Competition and the Audi RS5 Sportback.

With electrified performance, luxury features and AMG engineering, the new Mercedes-AMG E53 PHEV aims to strengthen Mercedes-Benz India’s presence in the high-performance luxury car segment.
