New Mercedes-Benz GLA Electric Debuts With 657km Range… Can Charge From 10% to 80% in Just 22 Minutes

Stuttgart: Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the third-generation GLA, introducing an all-electric version of its popular luxury SUV for the first time. The highlight of the new lineup is the GLA 250+, which delivers a claimed WLTP-certified driving range of up to 657km and supports ultra-fast DC charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes.

While the electric GLA is expected to eventually make its way to India, the German automaker has not yet announced an official launch timeline.

Three Variants, Three Different Battery Options

The new electric Mercedes-Benz GLA will be offered in three variants, each catering to different performance and range requirements.

The GLA 250 serves as the entry-level model, powered by a 58kWh LFP battery pack paired with a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 224hp and 335Nm of torque. Mercedes claims a WLTP range of up to 447km.

Stepping up is the GLA 250+, which features a larger 85kWh battery and a more powerful rear motor generating 272hp. This variant delivers the lineup’s highest claimed driving range of 657km, making it the most efficient version in the family.

At the top sits the GLA 350, equipped with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive. The system produces 354hp and 515Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 5.4 seconds. Due to its higher performance and additional motor, its WLTP range is slightly lower at 643km.

All three variants share a top speed of 210 km/h and are built on Mercedes-Benz’s latest 800-volt EV platform, designed for faster charging and improved efficiency.

Ultra-Fast Charging Technology

One of the biggest highlights of the new electric GLA is its advanced charging capability.

The GLA 250+ and GLA 350 support DC fast charging up to 320kW, allowing the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes under ideal conditions.

Mercedes-Benz also claims that just 10 minutes of charging can provide up to 270km of driving range on these higher-end variants.

The entry-level GLA 250 supports 200kW DC charging, completing the same 10–80% charging cycle in around 20 minutes due to its smaller battery.

However, buyers should note that compatibility with the more common 400V charging infrastructure requires an optional DC converter, as the vehicle is primarily designed around an 800V architecture.

Premium Cabin and Advanced Features

Inside, the new GLA offers a thoroughly modern luxury experience.

Available features include:

• MBUX Superscreen with an optional triple-screen layout
• 16-speaker Burmester premium audio system
• Panoramic sunroof
• Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
• Premium connected car technologies

Mercedes-Benz has also confirmed that a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol version of the third-generation GLA will be introduced in international markets from 2027.

India Launch Expectations

In India, Mercedes-Benz currently sells only the petrol-powered GLA, with prices starting at ₹51.80 lakh (ex-showroom).

Although the company has not confirmed when the electric GLA will arrive in the country, industry expectations suggest it will be positioned significantly above the current petrol model due to its advanced battery technology and premium feature set.

If launched, the new Mercedes-Benz GLA Electric is expected to compete with premium electric SUVs from brands including BMW, Audi, and Volvo in India’s growing luxury EV market.
