Toyota Urban Cruiser eBella BaaS Launched in India: Price, Battery Subscription, Range, Features & Warranty
Toyota has launched the Urban Cruiser eBella with a Battery-as-a-Service option, reducing the SUV's starting price while offering flexible battery subscription plans.

In a move aimed at making electric vehicles more accessible to Indian buyers, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership option for the newly launched Toyota Urban Cruiser eBella. The new pricing strategy significantly reduces the SUV’s upfront purchase cost by separating battery ownership from the vehicle itself.

Instead of paying for the battery at the time of purchase, customers opting for the BaaS model will lease the battery through a pay-per-use subscription, lowering the entry price by more than ₹8 lakh compared to the standard ownership model.

Toyota Urban Cruiser eBella: Price Under BaaS

The flagship Urban Cruiser eBella E3 is available in two purchase options:

VariantEx-showroom Price
Urban Cruiser eBella E3 (Battery Ownership)₹23.60 lakh
Urban Cruiser eBella BaaS Model₹15.25 lakh

Under the Battery-as-a-Service programme, customers choosing the lower-priced model will pay a battery subscription fee of ₹4.99 per kilometre based on vehicle usage.

This approach allows buyers to own the vehicle while leasing the battery separately, reducing the initial financial burden of EV ownership.

Toyota has also indicated that the BaaS option will be extended to the E1 and E2 variants in the coming months.

Battery Options and Driving Range

The Toyota Urban Cruiser eBella is offered with two battery pack options to suit different driving needs.

Available battery choices include:

  • 49 kWh battery pack
  • 61 kWh battery pack

Toyota claims the following driving ranges:

  • Up to 440 km on a single charge with the 49 kWh battery
  • Up to 543 km on a full charge with the 61 kWh battery

For faster charging, the electric SUV also supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in around 45 minutes, making long-distance travel more convenient.

The top-spec Urban Cruiser eBella E3 comes equipped with a wide range of comfort, convenience, and safety features.

Key highlights include:

  • 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Automatic climate control
  • Ambient interior lighting
  • Floating centre console
  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

The feature list positions the eBella among the better-equipped electric SUVs in its segment.

Ownership Benefits to Boost Buyer Confidence

Beyond the pricing advantage, Toyota is also offering several ownership benefits designed to encourage EV adoption.

One of the standout offerings is an assured buyback programme, under which customers may receive up to 60% of the vehicle’s purchase price after three years, subject to applicable terms and conditions.

This initiative aims to reduce concerns around long-term resale value, one of the key factors influencing EV purchase decisions.

A Different Approach to EV Ownership

Battery packs account for a significant portion of an electric vehicle’s cost, and Toyota’s Battery-as-a-Service model seeks to address this challenge by separating battery ownership from the vehicle purchase.

By lowering the initial investment while retaining access to the same premium SUV, Toyota hopes to make the Urban Cruiser eBella more appealing to customers who have been hesitant to switch to electric mobility due to high upfront costs.

As India’s electric vehicle market continues to expand, the introduction of a flexible ownership model could help Toyota strengthen its presence in the competitive EV SUV segment.
