BYD Atto 2 Spotted Testing in India Again: 380 km Range, Rotatable Screen & Launch Expected Soon
The BYD Atto 2 electric SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads ahead of its expected launch, showcasing its modern design and premium EV features.

BYD appears to be accelerating its expansion plans for the Indian electric vehicle market. After recently showcasing its advanced DM-i hybrid technology, the Chinese automaker has once again been seen testing the upcoming BYD Atto 2 on Indian roads, signaling that its official launch could be just around the corner.

The latest spy images reveal a heavily camouflaged prototype, but they also provide enough clues to suggest that the compact electric SUV is nearing production readiness for India. If launched, the Atto 2 will strengthen BYD’s growing EV portfolio and target buyers looking for a premium compact electric SUV packed with technology.

Camouflaged Prototype Reveals Key Design Elements

Although the test vehicle remains covered, several styling details are clearly visible.

The BYD Atto 2 features sleek LED headlamps paired with a closed black grille carrying the signature BYD logo. The front bumper incorporates functional air vents designed to improve battery cooling, while the side profile showcases sculpted body lines that give the SUV a sporty appearance.

At the rear, the electric SUV sports distinctive taillamps, a prominent roof-mounted spoiler, and a well-defined bumper design, all contributing to a modern and aerodynamic look.

The overall styling follows BYD’s latest global design language, balancing urban practicality with premium appeal.

Premium Cabin with Rotatable Infotainment Display

Inside, the Atto 2 is expected to offer a feature-rich cabin that focuses on comfort and technology.

The SUV comes equipped with an 8.8-inch fully digital driver’s instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen infotainment system, one of BYD’s signature features. In select international markets, buyers also have access to an even larger 15.6-inch rotating display, although it remains unclear whether that version will reach India.

The interior also features vegan leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a minimalist dashboard layout designed to deliver a premium driving experience.

Safety Gets a Major Upgrade

Safety is expected to be one of the strongest selling points of the upcoming electric SUV.

The BYD Atto 2 is equipped with a Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that includes several active safety technologies aimed at reducing driver fatigue and improving on-road confidence.

Combined with multiple airbags and electronic safety systems, the SUV is expected to appeal to buyers prioritising both comfort and occupant protection.

380 km Claimed Range and Electric Performance

Globally, the Atto 2 is powered by a 45.1 kWh battery pack paired with a front-wheel-drive electric motor.

The single electric motor produces 175 hp and 290 Nm of peak torque, offering a balance between everyday efficiency and responsive performance.

BYD claims the SUV can deliver a driving range of up to 380 kilometres on a full charge, while the top speed is electronically limited to 160 km/h.

These figures position the Atto 2 as a practical option for both city commuting and occasional highway journeys.

India Launch Could Happen Later This Year

While BYD India has not officially announced a launch date, repeated sightings of the Atto 2 during road testing suggest the company is in the final stages of validation.

The launch would also complement BYD’s broader strategy of expanding its electrified portfolio in India following the introduction of its DM-i Plug-in Hybrid technology.

If priced competitively, the BYD Atto 2 could emerge as a strong contender in India’s fast-growing electric SUV segment, taking on rivals with its premium interiors, advanced safety package, modern design, and respectable driving range.
