Mahindra BE 07 Rendered Ahead of Debut: Is This the BE 6’s More Practical Sibling We’ve Been Waiting For?

Mahindra is preparing to add another electric SUV to its growing BE lineup, and the upcoming BE 07 could turn out to be a very different proposition from the sporty-looking BE 6.

While the two SUVs are expected to share the same basic electric platform and design philosophy, the BE 07 is being positioned as the more practical option. Its longer, more upright proportions should translate into additional cabin space, particularly for passengers sitting in the second row.

The SUV is expected to make its debut around Mahindra’s Independence Day event, although the company has not yet announced an official launch timeline.

BE 07 takes the BE 6 formula in a new direction

The BE 6 has built its identity around an aggressive, futuristic silhouette and a sporty driving character.

The BE 07 appears to take that same philosophy and make it more family-friendly.

The upcoming SUV has a longer and more upright body, which should create additional usable space inside the cabin. The changes could mean easier access to the rear seats, improved legroom and better overall comfort for passengers.

In other words, Mahindra appears to be asking a simple question: what if the BE 6 was made more practical without losing its personality?

The BE 07 could be the answer.

Design remains futuristic, but production-ready

The production-spec test mule suggests that Mahindra has stayed relatively close to the original BE 07 concept.

At the front, the SUV is expected to feature a wide face with slim LED lighting elements and a closed-off fascia typical of an electric vehicle.

Chunky wheel arches give the SUV a muscular stance, while the distinctive rear lighting signature helps retain the visual identity of the BE family.

The production version is also expected to receive flush-fitting door handles.

Naturally, some of the more dramatic elements from the concept are likely to be toned down for manufacturing, but the overall design should remain recognisably BE.

More space could be the biggest advantage

The biggest difference between the BE 07 and BE 6 may not be visible in the headlights or body lines.

It could be inside.

The more upright body should allow Mahindra to make better use of the available space, particularly in the second row.

That could translate into better rear-seat legroom, easier ingress and egress and improved seating ergonomics.

For buyers who regularly use their electric SUV as a family car, these changes could be more important than outright styling.

The BE 07 therefore appears to be targeting customers who like the technology and design of the BE range but don’t necessarily want to compromise on everyday usability.

Expect plenty of technology inside

The BE 07 is expected to borrow heavily from the BE 6 when it comes to cabin technology.

Large digital displays, connected-car features, advanced safety equipment and ADAS are expected to form part of the package.

The exact equipment list has not yet been confirmed, but Mahindra’s recent electric SUVs suggest that the BE 07 will not be short on technology.

The difference should primarily be the way that technology is packaged.

Instead of focusing heavily on a sporty, driver-centric environment, the BE 07 could offer a cabin that feels more spacious and comfortable for all occupants.

Same electric family, different character

Underneath, the BE 07 is expected to use the same broader electric powertrain family as the BE 6.

That could mean similar battery and motor options, although Mahindra has not yet confirmed the exact specifications for the production BE 07.

Performance should remain one of the SUV’s strengths.

However, the BE 07’s larger dimensions and potentially higher kerb weight could result in differences in acceleration, efficiency and driving range compared with the smaller BE 6.

For most buyers, though, the trade-off could be worthwhile if the additional size brings significantly more usable cabin space.

Could the BE 07 steal buyers from the BE 6?

Interestingly, the arrival of the BE 07 could actually make the BE 6 more of a niche product.

Customers looking for a sporty, distinctive electric SUV with an unconventional design may continue to prefer the BE 6.

But buyers who want something more practical — particularly families — could naturally move towards the BE 07.

Mahindra already has an indication that a more conventional electric SUV format can attract stronger demand. The XEV 9e has reportedly generated higher sales volumes than the BE 6, suggesting that practicality continues to matter even in the premium EV segment.

That gives the BE 07 an interesting opportunity.

The middle ground Mahindra needs?

The BE 07 could potentially occupy the sweet spot between the two approaches.

It may offer the sporty character and technology of the BE 6, while delivering the space and practicality associated with the XEV 9e.

If Mahindra manages to maintain the distinctive BE design while making the SUV substantially easier to live with every day, the BE 07 could become one of the more compelling additions to India’s electric SUV market.

For now, Mahindra has not confirmed the exact launch date, battery specifications, pricing or final production details.

But if the production model stays close to what the test mule and earlier concept suggest, the BE 07 could prove that an electric SUV doesn’t have to choose between style and practicality.
