Mahindra is preparing for another action-packed Independence Day event, with multiple SUV unveilings and updates expected, including the Thar facelift, Vision S concept and enhancements to its electric lineup.
Mahindra & Mahindra is once again gearing up to celebrate India’s Independence Day with a series of major SUV announcements. Over the past few years, the automaker has turned August 15 into a key date for unveiling new products and future concepts, and 2026 appears set to continue that tradition.
This year’s showcase is expected to feature the new Mahindra Thar facelift, updates to the BE 6 electric SUV, a closer look at the Vision S concept and the public debut of the recently launched Mahindra Scorpio N facelift.
While some of these vehicles are ready for customers, others are still in the concept or pre-production stage.

New Mahindra Thar could arrive with premium upgrades
The biggest attraction is likely to be the facelifted Mahindra Thar, which has been spotted testing on Indian roads several times in recent months.
Spy images suggest the SUV could adopt design elements inspired by the Thar Roxx, giving it a more modern appearance while retaining its iconic off-road identity.
Reports indicate the refreshed model may introduce features such as Level 2 ADAS, ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charging and an upgraded cabin experience.
Mechanically, however, the SUV is expected to retain its existing petrol and diesel engine options, ensuring familiar performance while improving comfort and convenience.
Electric Thar remains under speculation
Alongside the facelift, speculation continues around the long-rumoured Thar.e, Mahindra’s all-electric version of the popular off-roader.
Although the company has not officially confirmed its launch timeline, industry reports suggest it could make an appearance during the Independence Day showcase.
The electric SUV is expected to be based on Mahindra’s INGLO platform and may feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with an estimated driving range of 400–500 kilometres.
However, these specifications remain unofficial until Mahindra makes an announcement.
BE 6 update expected to boost technology
Mahindra is also expected to reveal updates for its BE 6 electric SUV.
The biggest anticipated change is a triple-screen dashboard, enhancing the cabin’s digital experience and bringing it closer to premium electric rivals.
The update is unlikely to affect the vehicle’s battery options, which are expected to continue with 59kWh and 79kWh packs.
The move highlights Mahindra’s continued focus on expanding its electric vehicle portfolio while improving in-car technology.
Vision S may preview Mahindra’s next compact SUV
Another vehicle attracting attention is the Vision S, which has been spotted testing in near-production form multiple times this year.
Industry expectations suggest Mahindra could unveil a production-ready concept that previews a future sub-four-metre SUV.
The model is believed to be planned in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) versions, although its commercial launch is expected only in 2026 or 2027.
For now, Vision S is expected to serve as a glimpse into Mahindra’s future design direction rather than an immediate showroom product.
Scorpio N facelift already reaches customers
Unlike the other expected announcements, the updated Mahindra Scorpio N has already entered the market.
Priced from ₹13.69 lakh (ex-showroom), the refreshed SUV introduces new features including a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera, while retaining its existing turbo-petrol and turbo-diesel engine choices.
The Independence Day event is likely to provide the SUV with a wider public showcase following its launch.
What buyers should watch for
For SUV enthusiasts and prospective buyers, Mahindra’s August 15 presentation could provide clarity on several upcoming models.
While the Scorpio N facelift is already available for purchase, the Thar facelift appears to be closest to launch. Meanwhile, the Vision S and the electric Thar.e remain future-facing products that hint at the company’s long-term strategy.
As Mahindra continues investing heavily in both conventional SUVs and electric mobility, its Independence Day announcements are expected to offer an important glimpse into the next chapter of its expanding lineup.
