Shah Rukh Khan Wins Supreme Court Relief in Mannat CRZ Case, Two-Floor Expansion Cleared
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has received Supreme Court relief after the dismissal of a plea challenging the CRZ clearance for the renovation and expansion of his iconic Mumbai residence, 'Mannat'.

Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has secured a major legal victory after the Supreme Court of India dismissed a petition challenging the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance granted for the renovation and expansion of his iconic sea-facing residence, ‘Mannat’ in Mumbai.

The ruling effectively brings an end to a prolonged legal dispute and clears the path for the actor to move forward with his ambitious renovation plans, including the construction of two additional floors at the landmark property.

The petition had questioned the validity of the environmental approvals granted by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA). However, the apex court chose not to interfere with the earlier decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which had already upheld the CRZ clearance.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohana dismissed the appeal filed by Mumbai-based activist Santosh Daundkar. During the hearing, the Bench reportedly expressed serious doubts about the bona fide nature of the petition, indicating that it found no sufficient grounds to reopen the matter.

The dispute traces back to a ruling by the NGT’s Western Zone Bench in Pune, which had rejected objections raised against the environmental approval for the renovation project. Dissatisfied with that decision, the petitioner approached the Supreme Court seeking its intervention.

With the country’s highest court refusing to entertain the appeal, the NGT’s order remains intact, and the CRZ clearance continues to be legally valid.

The verdict is significant not only for Shah Rukh Khan but also for the future of the renovation project at Mannat, one of Mumbai’s most recognised residential landmarks. The expansion is expected to provide additional living space while preserving the heritage and architectural appeal of the bungalow.

Over the years, Mannat has become more than just a celebrity residence. It has evolved into a landmark visited daily by thousands of fans who gather outside its gates hoping to catch a glimpse of the Bollywood icon. Any development involving the property often attracts nationwide attention.

With all major legal hurdles now cleared, work on the renovation and expansion is expected to move ahead as planned. The Supreme Court’s decision marks the conclusion of the legal battle and allows the project to proceed without further judicial obstacles.

The ruling also reinforces the validity of the approvals granted by the concerned environmental authorities, bringing clarity to a case that had remained under scrutiny for months.
