A Spy Thriller That Redefined Bollywood Action
Originally released in India on December 5, 2025, Dhurandhar quickly became one of the year’s biggest cinematic successes.
The story follows undercover intelligence officer Hamza Ali Mazari, who infiltrates the dangerous underworld of Lyari, Karachi, to dismantle terror networks led by the feared Rehman Dakait, played by Akshaye Khanna.
Blending espionage, emotional storytelling and high-octane action, the film received widespread appreciation from both critics and audiences.
The Story Continued With Dhurandhar: The Revenge
The franchise expanded in March 2026 with the release of Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
The sequel explored the hidden past of Hamza, revealing his true identity as Jaskirat Singh Rangi before he became an undercover operative.
Together, the two films established one of Bollywood’s most successful action franchises in recent years.

Japan Emerges as a Key Market for Indian Cinema

Japan has increasingly become an important overseas destination for Indian films.
Over the past decade, several Indian blockbusters have built a loyal fan base in the country. S. S. Rajamouli’s RRR remains the highest-grossing Indian film in Japan, while films such as Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, 3 Idiots, English Vinglish, The Lunchbox, Saaho, Magadheera, Enthiran (Robot), Muthu, and Pushpa 2: The Rule have also performed strongly.
The growing popularity of Indian cinema in Japan has encouraged production houses to expand their international release strategies, introducing larger audiences to Bollywood’s evolving storytelling and big-budget spectacles.
With its successful domestic run already behind it, Dhurandhar will now look to make a strong impression among Japanese audiences and further strengthen the global reach of Indian cinema.
