Jr NTR-Trivikram’s New Film Lands in Controversy: Seeman Objects to ‘Murugan’ Reference, Demands Action
A promotional tagline for Jr NTR’s upcoming film has sparked a political row in Tamil Nadu, with Naam Tamilar Katchi chief Seeman accusing the makers of misrepresenting Lord Murugan and Tamil culture.
Jr NTR and filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas have found their upcoming film at the centre of a controversy even before production begins. A promotional tagline released during the project’s announcement has triggered objections in Tamil Nadu, with Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman demanding that the makers clarify their stance.
The controversy revolves around speculation that the film is based on Lord Murugan, a deity deeply revered in Tamil culture.
What Sparked the Controversy?
The project was officially announced on June 29 by producer Naga Vamsi, who shared a first-look poster featuring Jr NTR along with the line:“Born in the North. Forged in the Heartland. Worshipped in the South. Now… A tale destined to belong to the universe.”
Although the makers have not disclosed the film’s storyline, the promotional message led many social media users to speculate that the film could be inspired by Lord Murugan, also known as Karthikeya.
The phrase “Born in the North” quickly became the focal point of criticism, with several people in Tamil Nadu arguing that Lord Murugan holds a unique place in Tamil history, tradition, and identity.
Seeman Issues Strong Warning
The issue intensified after Seeman released a detailed statement on X (formerly Twitter), accusing the filmmakers of distorting Tamil heritage.
The NTK leader strongly opposed any depiction suggesting that Lord Murugan originated in northern India.
In his statement, Seeman described Lord Murugan as an inseparable symbol of Tamil identity and culture.“Tamil is Murugan; Murugan is Tamil; the two are inseparable,” he stated.
He also warned the makers against what he described as attempts to create fictional narratives about the deity’s origins.
Further, Seeman cautioned that if the filmmakers continued with such a portrayal, they could face strong public opposition.

Demand to Ban the Film in Tamil Nadu
In addition to criticising the promotional material, Seeman urged the Tamil Nadu government to deny permission for the film’s release if the concerns are not addressed.
He argued that any project perceived to distort Tamil culture or hurt religious sentiments could potentially create law-and-order issues in the state.
Makers Yet to Respond

As of now, neither Jr NTR, Trivikram Srinivas, nor producer Naga Vamsi has issued an official statement addressing the controversy.
The project is still in its early stages and has not yet gone on floors.
What We Know About the Film
The upcoming film marks the much-awaited reunion of Jr NTR and Trivikram Srinivas.
While the official title has not been announced, industry reports suggest the film could be named ‘God of War’.
Apart from the announcement poster, the makers have not revealed details regarding the storyline, cast, or production schedule.
Whether the controversy affects the project remains to be seen, as fans continue to await an official clarification from the filmmakers.
