Opposition to Corner Centre in Parliament: INDIA Bloc Demands Amit Shah’s Statement on Student Protest Crackdown

The Monsoon Session of Parliament is set for another day of high political drama as Opposition parties prepare to stage a protest outside Makar Dwar, demanding that Union Home Minister Amit Shah address both Houses over the police action during the July 20 student protests in the national capital.

The protest comes as Parliament enters its eleventh day, with the Opposition also expected to raise several other contentious issues, including the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft controversy and the reported attack on Independent MP Pappu Yadav in Delhi.

Opposition Demands Amit Shah’s Statement

Leaders from Opposition parties have maintained that the government must explain the circumstances surrounding the police action against demonstrators during the July 20 protest.

The INDIA bloc is expected to reiterate its demand that Home Minister Amit Shah make a formal statement in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

Speaking to ANI, Congress MP KC Venugopal said the Opposition would continue raising the issue until the government responded.“We will raise the same issue of the Home Minister’s explanation in the House… on the lathi-charge and the firing on Delhi students,” Venugopal said.

He added that he was not aware whether the government intended to introduce the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) Amendment Bill during the day’s proceedings.

Ram Mandir Donation Row Also on Opposition’s Agenda

Apart from the student protest issue, Opposition members are also expected to raise the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft controversy inside Parliament.

The matter gained political attention after Independent MP Pappu Yadav criticised the government over the issue during the previous week, triggering sharp exchanges between the ruling party and the Opposition.

Meanwhile, Parliament is also likely to discuss the reported attack on Pappu Yadav in Delhi on Sunday, adding another flashpoint to the ongoing session.

BJP Urges Smooth Functioning of Parliament

Responding to the Opposition’s strategy, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Manish Jaiswal said Parliament should focus on legislative business rather than repeated disruptions.

He stressed that Parliament exists to debate laws and address issues through established parliamentary procedures.“Parliament exists to serve the people… However, the Opposition insists that everything must happen according to their wishes rather than the rules of Parliament; their sole aim is to cause disruption, which is not appropriate,” Jaiswal said.

Another Stormy Day Expected

With both the government and the Opposition standing firm on their respective positions, the Monsoon Session is expected to witness another day of heated debates and possible disruptions.

While the ruling alliance is looking to move forward with its legislative agenda, the Opposition has signalled that it will continue pressing for accountability over the police action against student protesters and other issues it considers politically significant.

As proceedings resume, attention will remain on whether the government responds to the Opposition’s demand for a statement from Amit Shah, or whether Parliament witnesses yet another day of confrontation.
