Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar joined several celebrities in praising Imtiaz Ali’s emotional drama Main Vaapas Aaunga, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina.
Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali’s latest film Main Vaapas Aaunga continues to receive widespread appreciation from audiences and celebrities alike, with filmmaker Zoya Akhtar now joining the growing list of admirers praising the emotional drama.
Taking to Instagram Stories, Zoya congratulated the team behind the film and described the project as deeply moving and beautifully made.
“Congratulations to beautiful people for beautiful film Main Vaapas Aaunga,” she wrote while sharing her appreciation online.
The film has steadily built strong word-of-mouth ever since its release, with viewers and industry personalities praising its emotional depth, poetic storytelling, and performances.
Earlier, actress Aditi Rao Hydari had also expressed admiration for the film after watching it. Sharing her thoughts on social media, she described the experience as emotionally overwhelming and memorable.
“An Imtiaz Ali film… but I must say more! Poetic, poignant and real… brain is still processing and saying main vaapas jaoongi, phir se dekhoongi,” she wrote.
Known for creating emotionally layered stories centred around love, longing, and human relationships, Imtiaz Ali once again explores those themes through Main Vaapas Aaunga. The film is set in the filmmaker’s signature cinematic world filled with nostalgia, emotional vulnerability, and soulful storytelling.
The project features a strong ensemble cast including Diljit Dosanjh, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina in pivotal roles.
Meanwhile, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha also praised Imtiaz Ali’s work while speaking about the evolving challenges filmmakers face in today’s entertainment industry.
In a recent Instagram post, Anubhav remarked that directors are increasingly being “ruthlessly stripped” of one of the most important elements of filmmaking — creative belief.
While appreciating Main Vaapas Aaunga, he suggested that despite industry pressures, Imtiaz Ali continues to hold onto the emotional sincerity and conviction that define strong cinema.
The discussion surrounding the film also sparked conversations online regarding actor Diljit Dosanjh’s absence from promotional events and public appearances related to the movie.
Addressing the matter, the makers clarified that Diljit was unavailable because of his international concert commitments, while actress Sharvari was occupied with overseas shooting schedules.
The director explained that the team was fully aware of these scheduling challenges even before filming began.

“When we were taking the dates from Diljit to shoot for this film, we knew he would be performing concerts during the release period,” the filmmaker said.
He further added that casting the right actors for the film mattered more than ensuring promotional availability.

“We don’t have the strategy of avoiding promotions. We simply wanted the film to reach people in the best way possible,” he explained.
Diljit Dosanjh was also absent during the film’s trailer launch event, though he later shared a video message apologising for missing the occasion and informing fans about his packed international schedule.
Despite limited promotions from some cast members, Main Vaapas Aaunga continues to generate strong appreciation online, with audiences praising its heartfelt storytelling and emotionally resonant performances.
