Vivo X500 Series Launching September 21 With Huge Camera Upgrades; 64MP Telephoto, 2nm Chip and AI Photography… What’s Coming to India?

Vivo is preparing its next major flagship smartphone launch, and photography appears to be at the heart of the upgrade.

The upcoming Vivo X500 series is set to debut in China on September 21, 2026, with the lineup expected to consist of the Vivo X500, X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max. Early details point towards substantial improvements in cameras, displays, processing power and artificial intelligence.

For Indian buyers, however, there is one important question still unanswered when will the X500 series arrive in India?

Vivo X500 gets serious camera hardware

The standard Vivo X500 is expected to feature a 50MP Sony LYT-828 primary camera built around a large 1/1.28-inch sensor.

Notably, the same sensor has previously been used on the Vivo X300 Pro, suggesting Vivo is bringing higher-end camera hardware to the standard X500 this generation.

The primary camera is also expected to feature Zeiss gimbal-level stabilisation with a CIPA 5.5 stabilisation rating.

For users, the objective is simple: deliver sharper images and smoother videos even when shooting handheld or in situations where keeping the smartphone completely steady is difficult.

64MP telephoto and 4K 120fps video

Vivo isn’t relying solely on the main camera to attract photography enthusiasts.

The X500 is also expected to pack a 64MP Sony LYT-610 telephoto camera, which could also feature a CIPA 5.5 stabilisation rating.

Video capabilities are another major highlight, with the smartphone expected to support 4K recording at up to 120fps.

Such a combination could make the X500 particularly appealing to creators who regularly shoot videos on their smartphones, while higher-frame-rate 4K recording should provide greater flexibility for producing smooth slow-motion footage.

X500 Pro models could get an even bigger upgrade

While the standard X500 already sounds camera-heavy, Vivo X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max are expected to take photography performance another step forward.

Vivo has indicated that the two premium models will use a new main rear camera sensor, separate from the sensor offered on the standard X500.

Another major change could be hiding underneath.

The Pro models are expected to be powered by a new 2nm MediaTek Dimensity chipset. Full specifications and real-world performance details should become clearer when Vivo officially unveils the devices.

Vivo X500 Pro Max could feature massive 6.85-inch 2K display

The range-topping Vivo X500 Pro Max is expected to feature a large 6.85-inch 2K AMOLED display.

The panel is tipped to use BOE’s Q11 luminescent material and offer a 144Hz refresh rate, promising smoother animations, scrolling and gaming.

Vivo also claims the new display technology could offer around 21% better power efficiency while potentially delivering twice the lifespan of panels used in previous X-series devices.

If those improvements translate effectively into everyday use, they could help offset some of the additional power demands created by a large, high-resolution, high-refresh-rate screen.

AI Photography Assistant wants to help you take better pictures

Hardware isn’t the only photography upgrade Vivo has planned.

The X500 series will introduce an AI Photography Assistant, designed to provide real-time guidance while users are taking pictures.

The feature could recommend better poses, framing and colour adjustments depending on the scene being photographed.

Instead of expecting users to understand complicated photography settings, Vivo appears to be using AI to make some of those decisions easier.

For casual photographers, this could prove more useful than simply adding another camera mode buried inside the camera application.

Vivo Watch 6 could share the stage

The September 21 event isn’t expected to focus exclusively on smartphones.

Alongside the X500 series, Vivo is also expected to introduce the Vivo Watch 6 and new ear-clip headphones, further expanding its connected-device ecosystem.

When will Vivo X500 series launch in India?

For now, Vivo has confirmed the September 21 launch for China, but an official India launch date has not been announced.
