Samsung Unveils 200MP ISOCELL HPC Camera Sensor: 16-Bit HDR, 8K Video and Better Low-Light Photography Explained
Samsung has expanded its ISOCELL camera lineup with the new 200MP ISOCELL HPC sensor, bringing improved HDR imaging, enhanced low-light performance and advanced in-sensor zoom technology for future smartphones.
Samsung has introduced its next-generation 200MP ISOCELL HPC camera sensor, further strengthening its position in the smartphone imaging segment. Built on the company’s new DeepPixel architecture, the sensor is designed to deliver significant improvements in HDR photography, low-light performance, and digital zoom, promising a noticeable upgrade for future flagship smartphones.
According to Samsung, the ISOCELL HPC has already entered mass production, indicating that smartphones equipped with the new sensor could arrive in the near future.
A major leap in image quality
One of the biggest upgrades in the ISOCELL HPC is Samsung’s Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) technology. This design increases the full well capacity of each pixel by 60% compared to the previous generation, allowing every pixel to capture more light.
The result is brighter images with reduced noise, improved shadow details, richer highlights and a much wider dynamic range, particularly in challenging lighting conditions.
Samsung says the sensor is also equipped with High Transmittance ARL and High Precision Microlens technologies, which further improve light transmission and overall image clarity.
16-bit HDR without multiple exposures
A standout feature of the new sensor is its support for single-frame 16-bit HDR.
Unlike conventional HDR systems that combine multiple images to create a final photograph, Samsung’s latest technology captures the complete dynamic range in a single exposure. According to the company, this approach can record up to four times more colour information, resulting in more natural colours and improved detail in both bright and dark areas of an image.

Advanced video recording capabilities
The 200MP ISOCELL HPC is designed not only for photography but also for high-performance video recording.
The sensor supports:
- 8K video recording at 30fps
- 4K recording at up to 180fps
- Full HD (1080p) recording at up to 360fps
Samsung has noted that autofocus is not available during Full HD 360fps recording, which is one limitation users should be aware of.

Smarter in-sensor zoom
Samsung has also enhanced its in-sensor zoom technology by extending HDR processing across multiple zoom levels.
The ISOCELL HPC supports single-frame HDR at 1x, 1.5x, 2x, 3x and 4x zoom. The sensor intelligently uses downscaling techniques to preserve image quality, colour accuracy and dynamic range even while zooming.
This means users can expect sharper and more detailed images without relying heavily on software processing.
What it means for future smartphones
With the ISOCELL HPC now in mass production, the new camera sensor is expected to power upcoming premium smartphones in the coming months. Its combination of 200MP resolution, 16-bit HDR, improved low-light imaging, high-speed video recording, and advanced zoom capabilities reflects Samsung’s continued focus on pushing smartphone camera technology to new levels.
As smartphone brands increasingly compete on camera performance, Samsung’s latest sensor could set a new benchmark for mobile photography in future flagship devices.
