No Rohit Sharma? Robin Uthappa’s All-Time India ODI XI Sparks Massive Debate Among Cricket Fans
Former India batter Robin Uthappa surprised fans by leaving out Rohit Sharma from his greatest-ever Indian ODI XI, instead backing the iconic opening pair of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa has ignited a fresh debate among cricket fans after revealing his all-time India ODI XI during a social media ‘This or That’ challenge. While the lineup features some of the biggest legends in Indian cricket, one omission has stolen all the attention—Rohit Sharma.
Despite being one of the greatest ODI batters in history, Rohit did not find a place in Uthappa’s dream team. Instead, the former wicketkeeper-batter opted for the legendary opening partnership of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, a duo widely regarded as one of the most successful in One-Day International cricket.
Why Rohit Sharma Missed Out
Rohit Sharma’s exclusion surprised many considering his remarkable ODI career. The Indian skipper has scored more than 11,000 ODI runs, registered 30-plus centuries, and remains the only cricketer to score three double centuries in ODI history. He also holds the record for the highest individual ODI score of 264.
However, Uthappa chose to reward the proven success of the Tendulkar-Ganguly partnership, which dominated world cricket for several years and laid the foundation for numerous Indian victories.
A Star-Studded Middle Order
At No. 3, Uthappa selected Virat Kohli, whose consistency and record-breaking century tally make him an automatic choice in most all-time XIs.
The middle order also includes Yuvraj Singh at No. 4, recognised for his match-winning performances during India’s successful 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup campaign.
Former India captain MS Dhoni was picked as both captain and wicketkeeper, reflecting his exceptional leadership and finishing abilities in the 50-over format.

At No. 6, Suresh Raina earned a place for his versatility as a dependable middle-order batter, brilliant fielder and useful part-time spinner.
Balance Through All-Rounders and Bowlers
For the all-rounders’ roles, Uthappa selected Kapil Dev, India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain, along with Ravindra Jadeja, whose contributions with both bat and ball have made him one of India’s finest modern-day all-rounders.

The bowling attack features legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble, complemented by a pace duo of Zaheer Khan and Jasprit Bumrah. The combination offers experience, variety and the ability to perform across different phases of an ODI innings.
