Robert Downey Jr.’s Marvel Return Gets Bigger… Actor Reportedly Set to Earn $100 Million as Doctor Doom
The Hollywood superstar is making a dramatic MCU comeback as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with reports claiming he has landed one of Marvel’s biggest paydays ever.
Marvel Studios is preparing for one of the biggest comebacks in superhero cinema as Robert Downey Jr. returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) this time not as Iron Man, but as the iconic villain Doctor Doom.
The announcement, revealed during San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H presentation, stunned fans around the world. After spending more than a decade portraying Tony Stark/Iron Man, Downey Jr. is now set to take on one of Marvel Comics’ most powerful and complex antagonists.
Adding to the excitement, reports suggest the Oscar-winning actor has secured a $100 million deal for his appearances in the next two Avengers films.
A Massive Payday for Marvel’s Biggest Star
According to multiple reports, Robert Downey Jr. will reportedly earn $100 million for starring in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which is expected to arrive in theatres on December 17, 2027.
If accurate, the deal would once again make Downey Jr. one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood and reaffirm his importance to the MCU, a franchise he helped launch with 2008’s ‘Iron Man’.
His return marks a major creative shift for Marvel, as audiences prepare to see the actor transition from one of the universe’s greatest heroes to one of its most feared villains.
Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans Also Reportedly Land Big Deals
Downey Jr. is not the only Marvel veteran returning for the upcoming films.
Reports indicate that Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, and Chris Evans, known for portraying Captain America, have each reportedly signed contracts worth around $40 million for the two films.
Together, the reported salaries of the three actors total nearly $180 million, accounting for a significant portion of the estimated $600 million combined production budget for both movies.
Despite the enormous figure, the overall budget is said to remain below that of previous blockbuster MCU films such as ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

Downey Jr.’s Legacy in the MCU
Over the years, Robert Downey Jr. has become the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Through appearances in the Iron Man trilogy, four Avengers films, Captain America: Civil War, and cameo roles in The Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man: Homecoming, the actor has reportedly earned more than $500 million from Marvel projects.
Beyond financial success, his portrayal of Tony Stark played a defining role in shaping the MCU into one of the world’s most successful film franchises.

A Star-Studded Avengers Line-Up
The next chapter of the MCU will feature an ensemble cast packed with established stars and fan favourites.
Actors including Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Simu Liu, and Letitia Wright are expected to appear in the upcoming Avengers films alongside Downey Jr.
While many of the supporting cast members are reportedly receiving substantial salaries, none are believed to match the reported earnings of Downey Jr., Hemsworth or Evans.
Marvel Fans Await a New Era
With filming expected to take place for both ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, anticipation is continuing to build among Marvel fans worldwide.
Downey Jr.’s transformation into Doctor Doom represents one of the most unexpected casting decisions in MCU history and could redefine the future of the franchise.
If the reported salary figures and creative plans come to fruition, Marvel’s next Avengers saga could become one of the biggest cinematic events of the decade.
