‘I Got Death Threats After Raakh’: Ramandeep Yaadav Breaks Silence on Playing Rajjo, Says ‘That Means I Did My Job Well’
The actor opens up about the shocking audience reaction, emotional struggles, and how his terrifying role in Raakh blurred the lines between fiction and reality.
Sometimes, an actor’s biggest success is when audiences forget the person behind the character — and for Ramandeep Yaadav, that success came with an unexpected dark side.
After delivering a spine-chilling performance as Rajjo in Amazon Prime Video’s crime drama Raakh, Ramandeep has become one of the most talked-about breakout stars in the digital space. But while the praise has been pouring in, the actor revealed that the role also brought him something far more disturbing — hate messages and even death threats.
In an exclusive chat with media, Ramandeep admitted that the intensity of viewers’ reactions proved just how deeply his character impacted them.
“People sent me hate messages and death threats, but honestly, that tells me I did my job well,” the actor said, reflecting on the emotional storm surrounding Rajjo’s character.
The actor explained that when audiences react with such raw emotion, it means they completely believed in the world of the character. According to him, even anger can be a form of appreciation when portraying someone as dark and unsettling as Rajjo.
What surprised him most, however, was the reaction from his own family.
Ramandeep shared that one of his close friends was left shaken after watching the show and confessed that she hated Rajjo so much that she struggled to separate the character from the actor. But the strongest reaction came from his sister.
“She forgot I was her brother while watching the show. She was genuinely angry at Rajjo,” he revealed.
For Ramandeep, that was the ultimate proof that his performance had worked.
But stepping into Rajjo’s disturbing world wasn’t easy.
The actor revealed that unlike many performers who leave their roles behind after pack-up, he struggled to disconnect from Rajjo’s dark mindset even after filming ended.
“I genuinely couldn’t switch off,” he admitted.
To prepare for the role, Ramandeep built a detailed mood board, listened to carefully curated music playlists, and worked intensely on mastering the Haryanvi dialect. He also observed people closely, studying body language and emotional patterns to bring authenticity to the role.

The emotional toll was heavy, but his support system helped him stay grounded.
His family and friends made sure he spent time as Raman, not Rajjo — a separation he says was crucial for his mental balance. Meditation also became a key part of his recovery process.
Interestingly, acting wasn’t always the dream.

Before entering the world of cinema, Ramandeep wanted to represent India in sports. A cricket lover from Chandigarh, he once believed his future was on the field, not in front of the camera.
“I’m a small-town boy who thought he’d play for India. Bollywood was never part of the plan,” he shared.
Today, that journey has taken him from theatre workshops to sharing space with celebrated names like Anurag Kashyap, Taapsee Pannu, and Abhishek Bachchan.
And despite earning recognition for his dark role, Ramandeep is clear that he doesn’t want to be boxed into villainous characters.
He wants to explore everything — from emotional dramas to light-hearted entertainers.
If the audience’s intense reaction to Rajjo is anything to go by, Ramandeep Yaadav may have just announced himself as one of the industry’s most fearless new performers.
