‘A New Beginning’: Anupam Kher returns to bengali cinema after 26 Years, Announces Shuru Theke Shuru
The veteran actor marks his comeback as a Bengali film producer with Shuru Theke Shuru and reveals plans to establish an acting school in West Bengal.
Kolkata: Veteran actor Anupam Kher is all set to reconnect with Bengali cinema after a gap of 26 years, announcing his new film Shuru Theke Shuru. The project marks not only his return to the Bengali film industry but also his first production venture in the language since the critically acclaimed Bariwali.
Making the announcement in Kolkata, Kher described the film as “a new beginning” and expressed his deep admiration for Bengal’s contribution to Indian cinema, literature and music.
A Return After More Than Two Decades
Speaking to the media, Anupam Kher revealed that Anupam Kher Studio will produce the upcoming Bengali film in collaboration with Friends Communication and producer Firdausul Hasan.
Reflecting on his earlier association with Bengal, the actor recalled working on Bariwali, directed by the late Rituparno Ghosh, and said he is delighted to return to the industry with another meaningful project.
Kher said Bengal has always inspired him through its rich artistic traditions, adding that the new film represents the beginning of another exciting chapter in his creative journey.
Plans for an Acting School in West Bengal
Beyond filmmaking, Anupam Kher also announced his intention to establish an acting school in West Bengal.

According to the veteran actor, the initiative aims to nurture young talent and provide aspiring actors with professional training. He added that he has received encouragement for the project from West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who extended his best wishes for the new venture.
Kher reiterated that Bengal has given India some of its finest contributions in cinema, literature and music, making it the ideal place for such an institution.
Recent Success with Tanvi: The Great
On the work front, Anupam Kher was last seen in Tanvi: The Great, a film he also directed.
Released in 2025, the emotional drama follows Tanvi, a 21-year-old woman with autism who sets out to fulfil her late father’s dream of saluting the Indian flag at the Siachen Glacier by pursuing a career in the Indian Army.
The film starred Shubhangi Dutt in the lead role alongside Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, and Arvind Swami. It received appreciation for its heartfelt performances and emotional storytelling while also sparking discussions about its portrayal of military life.
Next Stop: Khosla Ka Ghosla 2
Fans won’t have to wait long to see Anupam Kher back on screen. The actor is next set to appear in Khosla Ka Ghosla 2, scheduled to release on August 28, 2026.
The sequel reunites the beloved Khosla family, bringing back original cast members including Parvin Dabas, Ranvir Shorey, Kiran Juneja, and Boman Irani, who reprises his memorable role as the crafty antagonist.
