Mohammad Kaif and Kris Srikkanth have criticised India's selection policy after the team's disappointing T20I series defeat against England.

India’s disappointing 4-0 T20I series defeat against England continues to trigger strong reactions, with former cricketers Mohammad Kaif and Kris Srikkanth questioning the team management’s handling of young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson.

The duo expressed concerns over frequent changes to the playing XI, arguing that inconsistent selection policies can negatively impact both experienced players and emerging talents.

Kaif Questions Selection Strategy

Mohammad Kaif believes the constant chopping and changing within the squad has made it difficult for players to settle into defined roles.

According to the former India batter, young players require trust and continuity to perform consistently at the international level. He stressed that repeatedly dropping and recalling players only creates uncertainty and affects confidence.

Kaif particularly highlighted 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, saying young talents should be backed with a clear plan rather than being shuffled in and out of the team after just a few matches.

Srikkanth Backs Sanju Samson

Former India captain Kris Srikkanth also voiced his disappointment over the treatment of Sanju Samson.

He suggested that players cannot deliver their best performances without receiving sustained opportunities and clarity about their role within the team. According to Srikkanth, frequent selection changes prevent cricketers from building rhythm and confidence at the highest level.

The former chief selector urged the management to adopt a more consistent approach, especially when rebuilding the squad ahead of major ICC tournaments.

Pressure on Team Management

The criticism comes after India’s poor T20I campaign in the United Kingdom, where the visitors struggled in all departments and suffered a comprehensive 4-0 series defeat.

The disappointing performances have raised questions over team selection, tactical decisions, and the overall direction of the T20I setup under head coach Gautam Gambhir and the leadership group.

BCCI Review Expected

With the ODI series against England now underway and senior stars returning to the squad, India will be looking to regain momentum in the 50-over format.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to review the team’s disappointing T20I performances after the ODI series concludes.

The discussions are likely to focus on squad planning, player management, and preparations ahead of future international assignments.

As India aims to bounce back quickly, the comments from Kaif and Srikkanth have added further weight to the debate over whether the team management needs to offer greater stability and long-term backing to its players.
