Redmi 17C 5G launched with 6,000mAh battery and Dimensity 6300 but when is Xiaomi bringing it to India?

Xiaomi has expanded its affordable 5G smartphone lineup with the launch of the Redmi 17C 5G in Singapore.

The new budget handset packs several features aimed at everyday users, including a large 6.9-inch display, MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, 6,000mAh battery and a 50-megapixel main camera.

The phone also runs Android 16-based HyperOS 3 out of the box and offers practical additions such as a 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD support, NFC and an IP64 rating.

For Indian buyers, however, the biggest question remains unanswered: when will it launch in India?

Redmi 17C 5G price

The Redmi 17C 5G is priced at SGD 279, which converts to roughly Rs 20,900, for the 4GB RAM + 128GB storage variant in Singapore.

Xiaomi also lists a 4GB + 64GB configuration, although a separate price for this version has not been specified on the listed product page.

Buyers can choose between three colours:

Black, Brown and Purple.

Pricing and configurations could differ considerably if the handset eventually reaches the Indian market.

Is Redmi 17C 5G launching in India?

Xiaomi has not officially announced an India launch date for the Redmi 17C 5G.

There is, however, an important clue.

The smartphone was previously spotted on India’s Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification database carrying model number 2607FRNEAI.

A BIS appearance often precedes the Indian launch of an electronic device, although certification alone does not guarantee that a product will ultimately be released.

For now, Indian buyers will have to wait for an official announcement from Xiaomi.

6.9-inch display with 120Hz refresh rate

One of the Redmi 17C 5G’s most noticeable features is its enormous 6.9-inch HD+ display.

The panel offers a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels and supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, which should make scrolling and interface animations feel smoother than on traditional 60Hz budget phones.

It can reach up to 810 nits of brightness and offers a touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz.

Xiaomi has also included DC dimming, a dedicated Reading mode and multiple TÜV Rheinland eye-comfort certifications.

MediaTek Dimensity 6300 brings 5G connectivity

Powering the phone is the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, a 6nm octa-core chipset paired with the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.

The device comes with 4GB LPDDR4X RAM and up to 128GB UFS 2.2 storage, although Xiaomi notes that available memory configurations may vary depending on the market.

There is also microSD card support, which should prove useful for buyers who store large numbers of photos, videos and offline media.

On the software side, the smartphone ships with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16.

50MP camera leads the photography setup

The Redmi 17C 5G features a 50-megapixel main rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture.

On the front is an 8-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

Both cameras can record video at up to 1080p at 30fps, while photography features include HDR, Night mode and Portrait mode.

It is a relatively straightforward camera setup, but the 50MP primary sensor gives the device a headline-friendly specification for the budget segment.

6,000mAh battery could be its biggest attraction

Battery life is another major focus.

Xiaomi has equipped the Redmi 17C 5G with a sizeable 6,000mAh battery, paired with 33W fast charging.

The company claims the battery is designed to retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,000 complete charging cycles.

For buyers who prioritise long battery life over having an ultra-thin smartphone, the combination of a 6,000mAh battery and relatively modest HD+ display could make the Redmi 17C 5G particularly interesting.

Yes, it still has a headphone jack

While many premium smartphones have abandoned traditional wired audio, Xiaomi has retained a 3.5mm headphone jack on the Redmi 17C 5G.

The handset also supports FM radio and offers what Xiaomi describes as a 200% volume boost.

Connectivity features include 5G, 4G, dual-SIM support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, USB Type-C and multiple satellite navigation systems including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou.

Security is handled by a side-mounted fingerprint sensor alongside AI face unlock.

Wet fingers? Xiaomi says the screen will still work

Another useful addition is Wet Touch Technology 2.0.

Xiaomi says the technology allows the touchscreen to continue responding when a user’s hands are damp, oily or soapy a small feature that could make a noticeable difference during everyday use.

The phone also carries an IP64 rating, providing protection against dust ingress and water splashes.

However, IP64 does not mean the handset is designed for complete water immersion.

Big battery also means a big phone

With its 6.9-inch display and 6,000mAh battery, this is not a particularly compact device.

The Redmi 17C 5G measures 171.56 x 79.47 x 8.05mm and weighs 211g.

That size could appeal to users who primarily consume videos, browse social media or play games on their phones, though buyers looking for a lightweight handset may find it relatively substantial.

Could Redmi 17C 5G become Xiaomi’s next budget option in India?

The Redmi 17C 5G brings together several specifications that traditionally attract buyers in India’s highly competitive affordable-smartphone market: 5G connectivity, a 120Hz screen, 50MP camera, expandable storage and a huge battery.

But its potential success in India would depend heavily on one missing detail the price.

A direct conversion of the Singapore price puts the 4GB + 128GB version at around Rs 20,900, but international currency conversions rarely reflect final Indian smartphone pricing.

With the device already having surfaced on the BIS certification database, an Indian debut remains a possibility.

Until Xiaomi makes an announcement, though, the Redmi 17C 5G’s India price and launch date remain unconfirmed.
