The Samsung Galaxy S27 series may still be months away, but the first major camera rumour surrounding Samsung’s next flagship lineup has already surfaced — and it could signal a surprising change in the company’s smartphone strategy.
According to a recent report, Samsung is reportedly testing the upcoming Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ with a 50-megapixel Sony sensor for their main rear cameras.
If the report proves accurate, it would be a notable move for the South Korean technology giant. Samsung has spent years developing and using its own ISOCELL image sensors across its flagship smartphone range, making the potential adoption of a Sony sensor particularly interesting.
However, there is an important catch.
The Galaxy S27 series is reportedly still in the early stages of development, meaning Samsung could change the camera hardware before the phones enter mass production.
Samsung Could Turn to Sony for the Galaxy S27
According to a report by Dutch publication Galaxy Club, Samsung is currently testing versions of the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ equipped with a 50-megapixel Sony sensor as the primary camera.
The exact Sony sensor being tested has not been revealed, and there are currently no confirmed details about its size, pixel technology or other specifications.
Still, the possibility alone is enough to attract attention.
If Samsung does eventually use a Sony sensor for the primary camera on the Galaxy S27 series, it could represent one of the company’s most significant changes to flagship camera hardware in years.
