‘Must Ask BCCI and Ajit Agarkar…’: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Continued Absence Leaves Michael Vaughan and Alastair Cook Stunned
India’s teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is yet to make his international debut despite growing excitement around his talent, with former England captains Michael Vaughan and Alastair Cook openly questioning the decision to keep him on the sidelines.
The buzz surrounding Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is no longer limited to India. The 15-year-old batting prodigy has become a topic of conversation across the cricketing world, with fans and former players eagerly waiting to witness his first appearance in international cricket.
However, despite the enormous anticipation, Sooryavanshi continues to watch from the sidelines.
The young batter was expected by many to feature during India’s T20I series against Ireland, where crowds reportedly turned up hoping to see the teenage sensation in action. Yet he remained on the bench for both matches, leaving fans disappointed.
When the series moved to England, hopes were reignited that the youngster would finally receive an opportunity. Instead, Sooryavanshi once again found himself outside the playing XI, sparking fresh debate among cricket experts and former players.

Vaughan and Cook Join the Debate
Among those surprised by the decision are former England captains Michael Vaughan and Alastair Cook, who openly expressed their frustration over the youngster’s continued absence.
Vaughan, who has frequently spoken highly of Sooryavanshi and advocated for his inclusion in India’s squad, admitted he was shocked that the teenager had not been given a chance against Ireland.
Speaking on the Stick to Cricket podcast, Vaughan jokingly suggested that someone should directly ask the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and chief selector Ajit Agarkar why the youngster remains on the bench.
Cook also joined the conversation in a light-hearted manner, indicating that he would happily travel as a fan if it meant finally seeing the teenage sensation take the field.
Their remarks reflect just how much attention Sooryavanshi has attracted, not only among Indian supporters but also within international cricket circles.
Why Hasn’t He Played Yet?
Despite the growing calls for his inclusion, India’s team management appears committed to a patient approach.
The reality is that breaking into the current Indian T20I side is far from easy. To accommodate Sooryavanshi, one of the established players would likely need to make way.
At present, both Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson remain integral members of India’s batting unit. Their performances and contributions in recent ICC tournaments have strengthened their positions, making any immediate changes unlikely.

The management’s stance suggests that while Sooryavanshi’s talent is unquestioned, his opportunity will come only when the timing aligns with the team’s long-term plans.
A Talent the World Wants to Watch
What makes this situation unique is the level of interest surrounding a player who is yet to make his senior international debut.
Few teenagers generate such widespread curiosity, especially among former international captains and cricket analysts from other countries. The excitement around Sooryavanshi is a testament to the promise he has shown at a young age and the expectations placed upon him.
For now, the teenager’s wait continues.
Whether his debut comes in the ongoing England series or at a later stage, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: whenever Vaibhav Sooryavanshi finally steps onto the international stage, a significant portion of the cricketing world will be watching.
