Donald Trump’s remarks on Israel’s military decisions spark debate as fresh strikes in Lebanon leave five dead.

In a dramatic escalation that has reignited tensions in West Asia, at least five people were killed in fresh Israeli strikes on Lebanon—just a day after Donald Trump claimed that Israel “does as I say” when it comes to military decisions.

The remarks, made during an interview with Axios, have drawn global attention, especially as they were quickly followed by reported violations of a fragile ceasefire.

Trump’s Bold Assertion on Israel

Speaking candidly, Trump suggested that he holds significant influence over Israel’s actions in the region. “They have a lot of respect for me, and they do as I say,” he said when asked whether he could prevent Israel from launching further attacks on Lebanon.

He also spoke about his relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing ties as “good” but adding a striking remark: he needed to “keep him a little bit sane.”

The comments come at a time when the region is already on edge following prolonged conflict involving multiple nations.

Ceasefire Broken, Civilian Lives Lost

Within 24 hours of Trump’s statement, Israeli forces reportedly launched strikes into Lebanon, killing at least five people. The development has raised serious concerns about the stability of the ceasefire and whether diplomatic efforts are beginning to unravel.

While details about the targets and casualties are still emerging, the incident underscores the volatility of the situation despite ongoing international mediation.

‘Israel Would Not Exist Without Me’

In the same interview, Trump made another controversial claim, stating that Israel’s survival depended heavily on his past decisions. “If it weren’t for me, Israel would not exist today,” he said.

He referenced his decision to withdraw the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)—originally negotiated under Barack Obama—arguing that the deal would have enabled Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

Trump claimed that Iran was “just one month away” from acquiring nuclear capability and alleged that such weapons would have been used against Israel and other Gulf nations, including Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

Wider Regional Implications

Trump also reflected on previous confrontations with Iran, highlighting US military actions and claiming they prevented a larger catastrophe. He suggested that missile activity during the conflict had drawn several Middle Eastern countries closer to Washington.

However, analysts note that such statements—combined with ongoing military actions—could further complicate already fragile diplomatic efforts in the region.

A Region on Edge Once Again

The timing of Trump’s remarks and the subsequent strikes has intensified scrutiny over the role of global powers in influencing regional conflicts.

The key question now remains: if influence exists, why does violence continue?

As the situation develops, the world watches closely, with fears that any further escalation could derail ongoing peace efforts and plunge the region back into deeper instability.
