TCL Goes Big at IFA 2026: P80 Ultra Gets 50MP Periscope Camera, While New Tablets Have a Clever ‘Paper’ Trick
TCL has expanded its smartphone and tablet portfolio at IFA 2026, unveiling the P80 series alongside four new Tab A1 models. Highlights include a 50MP 3x periscope camera, 1.5K NXTPAPER AMOLED display, up to 120Hz tablet screens and Android 16.
TCL has arrived at IFA 2026 with a sizeable hardware refresh, introducing three new smartphones and four tablets aimed at users ranging from mobile photography enthusiasts to people who spend hours reading or working on a screen.
The new smartphone family consists of the TCL P80, P80 Pro and P80 Ultra, with the Ultra sitting at the top of the lineup.
Alongside them, TCL has introduced the Tab A1 series, offering 11-inch and 12.2-inch tablets in both conventional and NXTPAPER versions.
While TCL has revealed several headline specifications, complete pricing and availability details have not been announced globally.
TCL P80 Ultra Brings a 50MP Periscope Camera
Photography is one of the biggest attractions of the flagship TCL P80 Ultra.
The smartphone features a 50-megapixel 3x periscope telephoto camera, complete with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and electronic image stabilisation (EIS).
The telephoto shooter is joined by another 50MP primary camera, which uses a 1/1.56-inch sensor and also supports OIS and EIS.
Completing the rear camera system is an 8MP autofocus ultra-wide camera.
On the front, TCL has equipped the smartphone with a 32MP selfie camera for selfies and video calls.
The combination suggests TCL wants the P80 Ultra to compete heavily on camera versatility, particularly when it comes to zoom photography.
TCL P80 Pro Gets NXTPAPER AMOLED Display
The TCL P80 Pro takes a slightly different approach.
One of its key features is a 1.5K NXTPAPER AMOLED display, bringing TCL’s display technology to its smartphone lineup.
The handset also packs a 5,800mAh battery, although other important details including its chipset and complete camera configuration have not been fully outlined.
Meanwhile, the standard TCL P80 comes with a 1.5K AMOLED display.
TCL has yet to reveal the complete specification sheet for the standard model, including details surrounding its processor, cameras and battery capacity.
TCL Tab A1 Series Comes in Four Versions
TCL’s tablet announcement is broader, with four models covering two display sizes.
The lineup includes standard and NXTPAPER variants of both the Tab A1 and larger Tab A1 Plus.
The 11-inch Tab A1 models feature a 2.1K-resolution display, refresh rates of up to 90Hz, and a slim 6.2mm profile.
Those wanting more screen space can opt for the 12.2-inch Tab A1 Plus models.
These tablets increase the resolution to 2.4K, use a productivity-friendly 3:2 aspect ratio, and offer refresh rates of up to 120Hz.
What Makes NXTPAPER Different?
The most interesting feature of TCL’s new tablets may not be their screen size or refresh rate at all.
TCL is positioning the NXTPAPER variants specifically towards users who spend extended periods reading, studying or working on their devices.
The display technology incorporates anti-glare and anti-reflection treatments along with hardware-level blue-light management and multiple viewing modes.

The idea is to provide a more paper-like viewing experience while retaining the functionality of a conventional colour display.
The Tab A1 Plus NXTPAPER goes a step further with a dedicated NXTPAPER Key.
Pressing it gives users quick access to three different viewing experiences Standard Mode, Color Paper Mode and Ink Paper Mode.
This could allow users to quickly switch between regular multimedia use and display modes better suited to reading or focused work.
Android 16 and AI Features Included
All four tablets run Android 16 and come with Google services alongside TCL’s own productivity tools.

TCL has also included customisable gestures, which can provide faster access to AI functions, apps and the NXTPAPER interface.
The combination of larger displays, Android 16 and specialised reading modes suggests the company is targeting students and professionals alongside entertainment-focused tablet buyers.
When Can You Buy the TCL P80 and Tab A1 Series?
There is one major detail TCL hasn’t fully answered yet: how much will these devices cost?
The company says the TCL P80 smartphone series and Tab A1 tablet family will be released in selected markets.
However, pricing, configurations, colour options and availability will vary depending on the country and sales channel.
That means consumers will have to wait for individual regional announcements to know exactly which P80 and Tab A1 variants will reach their markets.
With a 50MP periscope camera on the P80 Ultra and paper-inspired NXTPAPER displays across its new devices, TCL’s IFA 2026 announcements show the company isn’t relying on just bigger specifications.
Instead, it is betting on two increasingly important smartphone and tablet priorities better cameras and more comfortable displays.
