Another Political Storm In Bengal? ₹635-Crore BGBS Payment Under Scanner
A fresh political controversy is brewing in West Bengal after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari alleged that a massive payment of ₹635 crore was made to a single event management company during the tenure of the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) government for organizing the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS).
Speaking to the media in Kolkata’s New Town on Friday, Adhikari indicated that his government has uncovered preliminary information suggesting significant financial irregularities linked to the high-profile investment summit.
The Chief Minister said the matter would be thoroughly investigated and warned that strict action would be taken if any wrongdoing is established.
“We Will Not Leave Anyone”: Suvendu’s Strong Message
Addressing reporters, Adhikari stated that a competent investigative agency would examine the financial transactions related to the summit.
According to him, the state government is prepared to hand over the case to agencies specializing in financial crime investigations if required.
“We will not leave anyone. People have given us the responsibility to ensure accountability,” Adhikari said while stressing that all aspects of the expenditure would be scrutinized.
His remarks have added fuel to an already intense political battle between the ruling BJP government in the state and the opposition Trinamool Congress.
Why Is The Bengal Global Business Summit Important?
The Bengal Global Business Summit was launched as a flagship investment platform aimed at attracting domestic and international investors to West Bengal.
Over the years, the summit hosted prominent industrialists, business leaders, diplomats, and government representatives from across the world. The event was often projected as a key initiative to boost industrial growth and employment opportunities in the state.
However, the latest allegations have shifted attention from investment commitments to questions surrounding expenditure and contract allocation.

Probe May Examine Money Trail
Sources indicate that investigators may review contract awards, payment records, expenditure details, and the overall financial structure related to the summit’s organization.
Officials are also expected to examine whether established procedures were followed while awarding contracts and whether any irregularities occurred in the utilization of public funds.
The possibility of examining financial transactions for potential money-laundering angles may also form part of the inquiry if evidence warrants further action.
Political Tensions Set To Rise

The allegations come at a politically sensitive time and are expected to intensify the confrontation between the BJP and the TMC ahead of future electoral contests in the state.
While the ruling administration insists that transparency and accountability are its priorities, the Trinamool Congress had not issued an immediate response to the allegations at the time of reporting.
As the proposed investigation gathers momentum, the focus will now be on whether the allegations lead to formal legal proceedings and what evidence emerges during the probe.
For now, the ₹635-crore claim has opened a new chapter in Bengal’s political landscape, with both supporters and critics closely watching the developments.
