‘Police Entered At 2:30 AM, Then Didi Arrived…’: Midnight Drama Unfolds At Abhishek Banerjee’s Kolkata Residence
A late-night police operation, an alleged extortion probe, and Mamata Banerjee’s sudden arrival turned a routine investigation into a political flashpoint in West Bengal.
Kolkata: A dramatic chain of events unfolded in the early hours of Saturday when a team of West Bengal Police reportedly entered the residence of Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata as part of an ongoing investigation linked to an alleged extortion case.
According to sources, the police team arrived at the residence around 2:30 AM seeking to locate Sumit Roy, a close aide and personal secretary to the TMC leader. Roy is reportedly facing allegations in an extortion-related matter currently under investigation.
The late-night operation quickly escalated into a high-profile political spectacle. Sources claim that the police team initially encountered resistance from the security personnel stationed at the residence. After a brief confrontation, officers proceeded with searches inside the premises.
The situation gained further attention when West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reportedly rushed to her nephew’s residence after learning about the police action. Her arrival added a dramatic political dimension to the already tense situation.
Witnesses reported a period of heated exchanges before the police team eventually left the premises. Mamata Banerjee also departed shortly afterward. By Saturday morning, a significant deployment of both police personnel and central security forces could be seen around the residence.
Abhishek Banerjee Breaks Silence
When approached by journalists following the incident, Abhishek Banerjee chose not to comment directly on the searches. Instead, he briefly responded by asking reporters to seek answers from the investigating agencies handling the matter.
The incident comes at a time when Banerjee is already facing scrutiny in multiple investigations.

Fresh Summons From CID
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has reportedly issued another notice directing Abhishek Banerjee to appear before investigators on June 16 in connection with an alleged hate speech case linked to the West Bengal election campaign.
This is separate from another ongoing probe concerning alleged irregularities in signatures submitted by several legislators on an important Assembly resolution.
Earlier this week, Banerjee underwent nearly six hours of questioning by CID officials after appearing before investigators following multiple notices. His appearance came after judicial directions requiring him to cooperate with the investigation.
While he was granted temporary protection from coercive action, authorities have continued their inquiry and have summoned him again for further questioning.
Another TMC Leader Under Scanner

Meanwhile, investigative agencies have widened their focus to include other leaders within the ruling party.
On Saturday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches at the residence of Madan Mitra, TMC MLA and former minister, in connection with the alleged Municipality Recruitment Scam.
Investigators are examining claims that illegal appointments were made in various municipal bodies and are probing allegations that financial benefits may have been exchanged through intermediaries. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are continuing to gather evidence.
Political Heat Rises In Bengal
The developments have intensified political tensions in West Bengal, where investigations involving senior political figures have increasingly become subjects of public debate and partisan confrontation.
With multiple agencies pursuing separate cases and more questioning scheduled in the coming days, the spotlight is expected to remain firmly on the state’s political leadership.
For now, the midnight operation at Abhishek Banerjee’s residence has added another dramatic chapter to Bengal’s already charged political landscape.
