The new Redmi 17 5G has launched in India with a 7,900mAh battery, Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset, 120Hz display and 50-megapixel primary camera, with sales beginning September 10.

Xiaomi has expanded its smartphone portfolio in India with the launch of the new Redmi 17 5G, bringing a particularly large battery and a new Snapdragon processor to the affordable smartphone segment.

The Redmi 17 5G was launched in India on Thursday and features a massive 7,900mAh battery, Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset, 120Hz display and 50-megapixel primary camera.

Its effective starting price has been announced at ₹23,999, although the listed prices of the two variants are considerably higher.

The smartphone is scheduled to go on sale beginning September 10 through Amazon and Xiaomi’s online store.

Here is everything buyers need to know about its price, specifications, cameras, battery and availability.

Redmi 17 5G Price in India

The Redmi 17 5G has been introduced in two RAM and storage configurations.

The 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model carries a listed price of ₹39,999, while the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant has been priced at ₹41,999.

However, Xiaomi is offering the devices at significantly lower effective prices.

The 6GB model has an effective price of ₹23,999, while the 8GB version comes down to ₹26,999 after applicable offers.

Buyers should therefore check the exact terms and eligibility requirements attached to the effective pricing before purchasing.

The smartphone will be available in three colours Absolute Black, Endless Blue and Eternal Orange.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 Powers the Redmi 17 5G

Under the hood, the new Redmi smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset.

The octa-core processor is manufactured using a 4nm process and offers a claimed peak clock speed of 2.4GHz, alongside an Adreno GPU for graphics processing.

The handset comes with up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM.

Storage uses UFS 2.2, with configurations offering up to 256GB of onboard capacity.

For buyers who need significantly more space for photos, videos and other files, Redmi also provides microSD expansion of up to 2TB.

Huge 6.9-Inch Display With 120Hz Refresh Rate

The Redmi 17 5G features a large 6.9-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels.

The panel supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, which should provide smoother animations and scrolling than conventional 60Hz displays.

Protecting the screen is Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.

While the large 6.9-inch panel could appeal to users who consume plenty of videos or play games on their phones, the HD+ resolution is comparatively modest for a display of this size.

Real-world display quality will therefore be an important area to examine.

50MP Camera Leads the Dual-Camera Setup

Photography duties are handled by a dual rear camera system.

The main camera uses a 50-megapixel sensor, while Redmi has also included a secondary rear camera. Further details regarding that sensor have not been specified.

On the front, users get an 8-megapixel selfie camera for photographs and video calls.

The handset supports video recording at up to 1080p resolution at 30fps.

Although megapixel numbers can provide an indication of camera hardware, actual image quality will depend heavily on sensor performance, processing and software optimisation.

7,900mAh Battery Could Be Its Biggest Selling Point

The standout specification of the Redmi 17 5G is undoubtedly its battery.

Xiaomi has packed the smartphone with a huge 7,900mAh battery, considerably larger than the batteries traditionally found inside mainstream smartphones.

The device supports 45W wired fast charging.

Interestingly, it also supports up to 22.5W reverse wired charging, allowing the Redmi 17 5G to potentially provide power to compatible devices when required.

For users who prioritise battery endurance, the combination could become one of the phone’s biggest attractions.

Actual battery life, however, will depend on usage patterns, network conditions, display settings and software optimisation.

Android 16 With HyperOS 3 Out of the Box

On the software side, the Redmi 17 5G ships with HyperOS 3, based on Android 16.

The handset also supports dual SIM connectivity and 5G, putting it in line with what buyers increasingly expect from smartphones in this price segment.

The combination of newer software and 5G connectivity should help the device remain relevant for buyers planning to keep their smartphone for several years, although Xiaomi’s software-update commitment will also be an important consideration.

Redmi 17 5G Sale Begins September 10

Indian buyers will be able to purchase the smartphone starting September 10.

It will be sold online through Amazon as well as Xiaomi’s official online store.

With an effective starting price of ₹23,999, the Redmi 17 5G enters a highly competitive section of India’s smartphone market.

Brands are increasingly offering AMOLED displays, powerful processors, high-resolution cameras and faster charging around this price point, meaning Redmi will need more than impressive numbers on a specification sheet to stand out.

Still, the 7,900mAh battery is difficult to ignore.

Combined with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 processor, 120Hz display, 50MP primary camera, expandable storage and 45W charging, it gives the Redmi 17 5G an unusual mix of features.

The biggest question now is whether those specifications translate into a strong everyday experience and whether buyers will see enough value at its ₹23,999 effective starting price.
