Missed Black Warrant, landed Raakh: Ramandeep Yadav reveals the twist that changed everything

The recently released crime thriller series Raakh has been making waves for its dark storytelling and intense performances. Based on the infamous Ranga-Billa case, the show has quickly become one of the most talked-about crime dramas of the season.

At the centre of the buzz is actor Ramandeep Yadav, whose chilling portrayal of the antagonist Rajjo has drawn attention from both audiences and critics.

But interestingly, Ramandeep’s journey to Raakh began with a rejection.

In an exclusive conversation, the actor revealed that before landing this role, he had auditioned for Black Warrant, filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane’s 2025 prison drama starring Zahan Kapoor.

That project too was connected to the dark history of the Ranga-Billa case.

However, Ramandeep did not make the final cut.

What could have felt like a major setback turned out to be an unexpected turning point.

Looking back, the actor says he never treated losing Black Warrant as failure.

Instead, he saw it as part of the process.

Speaking about preparing for Raakh, Ramandeep said he felt more responsibility than fear while stepping into such a dark and emotionally layered story.

He explained that years of constant auditions and refining his craft had prepared him for this moment.

For him, Raakh became the opportunity to finally prove himself.

The actor also reflected on the struggles of countless newcomers in Mumbai, saying the success of the series is a reflection of years of patience, effort and persistence by aspiring actors waiting for one breakthrough.

Rather than trying to justify his character’s actions or recreate history in a documentary style, Ramandeep focused on understanding the inner motivations and psychological depth of Rajjo.

That creative decision appears to have paid off.

Directed by Prosit Roy, Raakh also features a powerful ensemble cast including Ali Fazal, Sonali Bendre, Aamir Bashir, and Akash Makhija.

With the industry now taking notice of his performance, Ramandeep Yadav’s journey is proof that sometimes the role you lose is simply making way for the role you were meant to play.
