Indian cricket’s support system is facing fresh questions after a string of injuries disrupted the national team’s plans across multiple series. While recent changes in the coaching staff have already signaled a new direction, reports now suggest that India’s fitness and medical setup could also come under the spotlight.

According to multiple media reports, Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill are reportedly unhappy with the recurring injury concerns that have prevented India from consistently fielding its strongest playing XI. The repeated absence of important players has forced the team management to reshuffle combinations, affecting stability and overall performance.

Several Indian cricketers, including Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy, have battled fitness issues in recent months. These setbacks have come at crucial stages, leaving the selectors and coaching staff with limited options during international assignments.

Fitness Team Reportedly Under Review

Reports indicate that feedback regarding India’s head physiotherapist Kamlesh Jain is expected to be reviewed by the team management. Jain has been part of the senior men’s setup since 2022 after succeeding Nitin Patel.

Alongside the physiotherapy department, experts associated with the BCCI Centre of Excellence are also reportedly under scrutiny. The growing concern is not just about the number of injuries but whether some players have returned to competitive cricket before achieving full fitness.

Sources quoted in reports suggest that the coaching staff believes medical experts should take a stronger stand in workload management and recovery timelines instead of allowing players to return prematurely.

Balancing Performance and Player Workload

Modern international cricket demands an intense schedule across formats, with players constantly moving between bilateral series, ICC tournaments, and franchise leagues. As competition for places in the Indian squad continues to rise, cricketers often push themselves to secure opportunities.

However, experts believe that managing workloads has become just as important as on-field performance. The latest discussions reportedly revolve around whether adequate caution was exercised before certain players were cleared for selection after recovering from injuries.

If any shortcomings are identified, the BCCI could review its current fitness protocols to reduce recurring breakdowns and improve long-term player availability.

Support Staff Undergoes Transition

The developments come shortly after changes in India’s coaching group. Fielding coach T Dilip, who served with the national team for nearly five years, has officially bid farewell after his contract was not renewed.

In an emotional social media post, Dilip thanked players, coaches, and support staff for making his journey memorable. He reflected on his commitment to improving India’s fielding standards and described the experience as one of the most rewarding phases of his career.

Following his departure, Subhadeep Ghosh has taken over as India’s new fielding coach and is set to travel with the team for the upcoming Sri Lanka assignment.

Focus Shifts to Building a Fully Fit Squad

For Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill, ensuring the availability of a full-strength squad remains one of the biggest challenges ahead of a packed international calendar.

While the BCCI has not made any official announcement regarding changes to the medical or fitness staff, the reported internal review highlights the importance of injury prevention in modern cricket. With major tournaments approaching, maintaining player fitness could prove just as crucial as tactical planning or team selection.

Whether the ongoing assessment leads to structural changes within India’s support staff remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—the focus on player fitness has never been greater.
