France and Spain enter the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final with squads worth a combined €2.8 billion, making it the most valuable last-four clash in tournament history.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is set for one of its biggest encounters as France and Spain battle for a place in the final. Beyond the footballing rivalry, the semi-final has already created history by becoming the most valuable men’s FIFA World Cup semi-final ever, with both squads carrying a combined market value of approximately €2.8 billion.

According to the latest valuations by Transfermarkt, France’s squad is worth around €1.56 billion, while Spain’s players are valued at nearly €1.25 billion, taking the combined total to roughly €2.8 billion.

Mbappé and Yamal headline football’s biggest stars

The spotlight will firmly be on Kylian Mbappé and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, two of the world’s most valuable footballers.

Lamine Yamal, who recently turned 19, tops the valuation charts among players still competing in the tournament with an estimated market value of €205 million.

Close behind is Kylian Mbappé, whose value stands at approximately €185 million, underlining his status as one of world football’s biggest superstars.

Joining them among the competition’s elite are Michael Olise and Pedri, both valued at around €154 million.

Interestingly, four of the world’s five highest-valued footballers are involved in this semi-final. The only absentee is Erling Haaland, whose Norway side failed to qualify for the tournament’s last four.

France dominate attack, Spain stronger in goal

The squad valuations also highlight the strengths of both teams.

France possess the tournament’s most expensive attacking unit, featuring stars such as Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, and Mbappé, with the forward line valued at around €770 million.

Spain’s attacking options, led by Lamine Yamal, are estimated at approximately €428 million.

Defensively, France also hold the edge, with their backline valued at nearly €414 million, compared to Spain’s €295 million.

However, Spain boast the more valuable goalkeeping department, with their keepers collectively worth around €99 million, ahead of France’s €58 million.

Ticket demand tells a different story

Despite featuring the most expensive squads in World Cup history, the France-Spain clash has not generated the highest ticket resale prices.

Reports suggest the other semi-final between England and Argentina has attracted higher resale demand, largely due to the possibility of Lionel Messi making his final World Cup appearance.

The emotional significance surrounding Messi has reportedly pushed ticket prices well above those for the France-Spain encounter.

Spain carry recent psychological advantage

While market value favours France, recent head-to-head results provide encouragement for Spain.

La Roja have won six of their last ten meetings against France, including victories at UEFA Euro 2024 and the UEFA Nations League, although both matches were decided by narrow margins.

With a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final at stake, football fans can expect an intense contest between two of the strongest squads in international football.
