A leaked police dossier has reportedly detailed alleged security threats involving Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup may have delivered unforgettable moments on the pitch, but a leaked police dossier has reportedly revealed a darker side of the tournament — including alleged threats involving football superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Informacion.es, police records documented several security incidents during the tournament, ranging from bomb threats and alleged stalking to suspicious activity around players and match officials.

Among the incidents reportedly highlighted in the dossier was an alleged threat against Messi, who was said to have been specifically named by a caller claiming to be heading towards a stadium with weapons and explosives.

Messi allegedly named in serious threat

The most serious incident reportedly occurred in Dallas, when a person contacted Dallas Airport and allegedly claimed that he and two others were travelling towards the stadium carrying “homemade bombs and an AR-15”.

The caller reportedly mentioned Messi by name and allegedly directed the threat towards players from both teams as well as law enforcement personnel.

At the time, Argentina were preparing to face Jordan in a group-stage fixture at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

The reported threat immediately raised the stakes for tournament security teams, who were already operating under heightened security measures because of the enormous global attention surrounding the World Cup.

However, it is important to note that the details come from a leaked police dossier and media reports, and the reported threats should not be treated as confirmed evidence of an actual planned attack unless independently established by authorities.

Another alleged threat before Argentina match

The leaked report reportedly contained details of another incident ahead of Argentina’s match against Egypt in Atlanta.

According to the dossier, an account on X allegedly threatened to enter the stadium and target Messi with explosives attached to the person’s body.

Security agencies were reportedly monitoring such threats throughout the tournament, particularly given the presence of some of the biggest names in world football.

Messi, who was one of the major attractions of the competition, consequently remained a significant focus of security planning.

Ronaldo was reportedly targeted too

Cristiano Ronaldo was also reportedly involved in a separate security incident during the tournament.

According to the leaked dossier, a FIFA employee raised concerns on June 14 after noticing a suspicious individual who allegedly attempted to obtain information about Ronaldo’s accommodation.

The situation reportedly escalated two days later when Houston Police arrested the individual at the hotel where the Portugal national team, including Ronaldo, were staying.

The incident highlights the additional security challenges that come with protecting globally recognised athletes during a tournament watched by billions of people.

The reported incidents involving Messi and Ronaldo underline the enormous security operation required for a tournament spread across multiple cities and countries.

While football fans largely experienced the 2026 World Cup through packed stadiums, dramatic matches and superstar performances, security agencies were simultaneously dealing with threats and suspicious activity behind the scenes.

The leaked dossier reportedly included incidents involving players, officials and venues, showing just how complicated the security challenge became during one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

For Messi and Ronaldo, the tournament was already significant because it was expected to be among their final World Cup appearances. The reported threats add another unsettling layer to an event otherwise remembered for its footballing spectacle.
