‘I’m From UP, I Want Land in Ayodhya’: Amitabh Bachchan’s Midnight Call That Ended in a ₹15 Crore Property Deal
Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh: The transformation of Ayodhya following the construction of the Ram Temple has turned the holy city into one of India’s most sought-after real estate destinations. Along with millions of pilgrims visiting every year, investors—from business leaders to Bollywood celebrities—are now looking at Ayodhya as a long-term investment hub.
Among the biggest names to place their faith in the city’s future is Amitabh Bachchan, whose remarkable land purchase story has now come to light.
Speaking at the India Next Real Estate Summit 2026, Abhinandan Lodha, Founder and CMD of The House of Abhinandan Lodha, shared an interesting behind-the-scenes account of how the Bollywood icon personally contacted him to purchase land in Ayodhya.
A 3 A.M. Call That Changed Everything
According to Abhinandan Lodha, the incident dates back to 2023, when he was travelling in Australia.
He revealed that he woke up to several missed calls and a text message that simply read:“This is Amitabh Bachchan. Please call me back when you’re comfortable.”
Naturally surprised, Lodha returned the call as soon as possible.
During their conversation, Amitabh Bachchan reportedly said,“Abhinandan ji, I’m from UP, and I want to buy land in Ayodhya.”
The simplicity and clarity of the request left a lasting impression.
₹15 Crore Sent the Very Next Day
After expressing his interest, Amitabh Bachchan asked about the cost of the property.
Lodha informed him that approximately 15,000 square feet of land was available for ₹15 crore.
Without unnecessary negotiations or delays, the veteran actor reportedly transferred the entire amount the very next day, allowing the property transaction to be completed swiftly.
The story reflects not only Bachchan’s emotional connection with his home state of Uttar Pradesh, but also the confidence many high-profile investors have in Ayodhya’s future.
Ayodhya’s Real Estate Boom Continues
The construction of the Ram Temple has dramatically changed Ayodhya’s economic landscape.
Massive investments in roads, air connectivity, railway infrastructure, hotels, commercial projects, and public facilities have transformed the city into a rapidly developing urban and religious tourism centre.

This infrastructure push has significantly boosted property demand, with residential plots, villas, and commercial spaces witnessing increasing interest from investors across India.
Industry experts believe Ayodhya is no longer viewed solely as a pilgrimage destination but as an emerging real estate hotspot offering long-term appreciation.

Religious Tourism Driving Economic Growth
During his address, Abhinandan Lodha also highlighted the growing impact of cultural and religious tourism on India’s economy.
He noted that temple cities are increasingly becoming attractive destinations for senior living communities, hospitality projects, and long-term residential developments.
Drawing a global comparison, he pointed out that while Vatican City welcomes around 10 million visitors annually, Ayodhya is estimated to attract nearly 250 million visitors every year.
Such massive footfall naturally fuels demand for hotels, retail businesses, transport services, restaurants, and residential projects, creating new economic opportunities for local communities.
Celebrity Interest in Ayodhya Keeps Growing
Amitabh Bachchan is not the only celebrity betting on Ayodhya’s future.
Several well-known personalities have invested in the city’s expanding real estate market, including Ranbir Kapoor and acclaimed film producer Anand Pandit.
Their investments underline the confidence that influential figures have in Ayodhya’s long-term growth prospects.
With infrastructure projects continuing at a rapid pace and religious tourism reaching record levels, experts believe Ayodhya could remain one of India’s fastest-growing real estate destinations in the coming years.
For many investors, the city now represents a unique combination of faith, culture, tourism, and economic opportunity—a mix that is attracting attention from across the country.
