Ajay Rai alleges “house arrest” in Ayodhya as Congress delegation stopped from visiting Ram Mandir amid growing political tensions.

A fresh political flashpoint has emerged in Uttar Pradesh after state Congress chief Ajay Rai alleged that he was placed under “house arrest” by police in Ayodhya while attempting to visit the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple with a party delegation.

According to Rai, the incident took place on Tuesday shortly after his arrival in Ayodhya. In a strongly worded post on X, he accused the ruling government of acting out of fear and described the move as “the peak of dictatorship.”

“As soon as I arrived in Ayodhya, the BJP government panicked and had me arrested from my hotel,” Rai claimed, adding that the delegation was scheduled to offer prayers and seek blessings at the temple.

Congress Alleges ‘Suppression of Faith’

The controversy escalated further when the Uttar Pradesh Congress unit issued a statement accusing the administration of preventing devotees from exercising their religious rights. The party questioned whether visiting Ayodhya for darshan has now become a crime.

“Has it now become a crime in UP to have darshan of Lord Shri Ram?” the party asked, calling the action unconstitutional and demanding the immediate release of its leaders.

The Congress also alleged that Neeraj Tripathi, the party’s Pratapgarh district president, was similarly detained while accompanying Rai.

Emphasizing the broader sentiment, the party stated that “Lord Shri Ram belongs to the entire nation, not to any one political ideology.”

Sharp Attack on BJP Government

In his remarks, Rai went a step further, accusing the state government of corruption linked to temple offerings. Using strong language, he referred to authorities as “chadhava chor”—alleging mismanagement and misuse of donations.

“Why are those involved in land scams and donation theft so afraid of Ram devotees?” Rai questioned, intensifying the political attack.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, has not yet issued an official response to these allegations.

Backdrop: Ram Mandir Donation Row

The incident comes amid an ongoing controversy surrounding alleged financial irregularities linked to the Ram Mandir.

A local court in Ayodhya recently sent multiple accused individuals to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with the alleged embezzlement of temple donations. The case is being investigated by the Uttar Pradesh Police, with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing claims of misappropriation of funds and offerings.

The issue has triggered a fierce political battle in the state, with opposition parties accusing the government of failing to ensure transparency, while the ruling side has countered with its own claims.

Political Tensions Rise Ahead of Key Developments

The detention of a senior Congress leader at such a sensitive time has added fuel to an already heated political atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh.

While the Congress has framed the incident as an attack on both democracy and religious freedom, the episode is likely to deepen the ongoing political confrontation between the opposition and the ruling establishment.

For now, the situation in Ayodhya remains tense, with the Ram Mandir—once again—at the center of both faith and politics.
