Rajinikanth’s old remarks about Raghavendra Mandapam have resurfaced amid reports that a three-star hotel could be developed at the Chennai property.

Rajinikanth’s Raghavendra Mandapam has returned to the spotlight following reports that the well-known Chennai property could be developed into a three-star hotel. While there has been no official confirmation detailing the proposed development, the speculation has brought an old promise made by the superstar back into public discussion.

A resurfaced video shows Rajinikanth speaking about the future of the roughly one-and-a-quarter-acre property and explaining why he wanted the money generated from it to eventually benefit the people of Tamil Nadu, rather than his own family.

Rajinikanth’s promise about Raghavendra Mandapam

In the old video, Rajinikanth said that Raghavendra Mandapam had been transferred to the Raghavendra Public Charitable Trust and that he had included the arrangement in his will.

“After my life, this whole property will go to the Raghavendra Public Charitable Trust,” Rajinikanth said.

He then made an emphatic statement about what should happen to the income generated by the property.

“Each and every paisa will go to the people of Tamil Nadu who made me live. Not even a paisa will go to our family,” the actor said.

His comments reflected what he described as an effort to give something back to the people who had supported him throughout his extraordinary film career.

‘I cannot change a promise made publicly’

Rajinikanth also recalled the support he received from moviegoers over the decades. He spoke about fans spending their own money to watch his films, including during the early stages of his career when cinema tickets cost only a few rupees.

The superstar acknowledged that a will can legally be changed, but said a promise made publicly carried a different kind of responsibility.

“I can change my will at any time, but I cannot change a promise made publicly,” he said.

Rajinikanth also spoke about the importance of acting immediately when there is an opportunity to help others.

“When we want to do something good, we should do it immediately,” he added.

According to the actor, he discussed the decision with his wife Latha Rajinikanth and other members of his family before handing over the relevant will and property documents to his brother-in-law Varadacharya.

Is Raghavendra Mandapam becoming a hotel?

The resurfaced remarks have attracted fresh attention because of reports surrounding the future of Raghavendra Mandapam.

The Chennai venue, which opened in 1989, has long been associated with Rajinikanth and his fans. Over the years, it has hosted various gatherings and has remained a familiar landmark connected with the superstar’s public life.

A recent Cinema Vikatan report suggested that a three-star hotel could be developed at the site.

However, there remains an important unanswered question: Would the entire Raghavendra Mandapam property be converted, or would any proposed development involve only a portion of the premises?

As of now, there has been no official confirmation explaining the exact nature or scale of any proposed hotel project. Therefore, reports about the property’s redevelopment remain unconfirmed.

What has become clear from the resurfaced video is Rajinikanth’s previously stated intention for the property — that it should eventually serve a charitable purpose and that the income generated from it should benefit the people of Tamil Nadu.
