Tom Holland has confirmed that Marvel Studios has already planned for the future of Spider-Man, saying the "passing of the baton" has been discussed since Spider-Man: No Way Home.

As Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to attract audiences worldwide, Tom Holland has surprised fans by revealing that Marvel Studios has already mapped out a long-term plan for the future of the iconic superhero even after he eventually steps away from the role.

The actor, who recently returned as Peter Parker in the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, shared that discussions about his departure and the next Spider-Man have been taking place for several years.

Speaking during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast while promoting the film, Holland said the studio began planning for the future shortly after the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).“There’s a whole plan that we have been working on since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home. It’s laid out. It’s going to change for sure, but I have a really clear vision for passing on the baton, and I think it’s really exciting,” Holland said.

The 30-year-old actor explained that these conversations are among the most rewarding aspects of his journey as Spider-Man. According to him, helping shape the future of one of Marvel’s most beloved superheroes is something he genuinely enjoys.

Holland also expressed his desire to support the next actor who eventually takes over the role, just as Robert Downey Jr. guided him during his early years in the MCU.

Reflecting on that mentorship in an earlier interview with Esquire, Holland said he hopes to become the same kind of mentor for his successor.

“Robert Downey Jr. was such a mentor for me in my first three movies. I would love to be that person for whoever is next,” he said.
