‘Whatever We Say, We’ll Be Criticised’: Siddharth Explains Why Celebrities Often Stay Silent on National Issues
While promoting Operation Safed Sagar, Siddharth spoke candidly about social media backlash, freedom of expression, and why public figures often avoid commenting on controversial topics.
Mumbai: Actor Siddharth, known for openly expressing his views on social and political matters, has shared his perspective on why many celebrities choose not to speak publicly about sensitive national issues.
During the promotion of his latest web series, Operation Safed Sagar, the actor reflected on the intense scrutiny public figures face whenever they voice an opinion, saying criticism is almost inevitable regardless of the stance they take.
‘No Matter What You Say, Someone Will Be Upset’
Explaining the pressure celebrities face online, Siddharth said that any opinion expressed by an artiste is likely to trigger criticism from one section of the audience or another.
Using examples, he pointed out that whether someone supports or opposes a public figure or backs or questions a protest, social media reactions are often divided.
According to Siddharth, the issue isn’t necessarily what celebrities say, but the growing tendency to judge artists based on their personal opinions rather than their creative work.“Whatever I write, I am going to get criticised on social media,” the actor remarked while discussing the realities of online discourse.
‘Stop Hating Artistes’
The Rang De Basanti actor also appealed to audiences to separate an artiste’s personal opinions from their professional work.
He suggested that people should evaluate actors based on their performances instead of allowing differences in ideology or viewpoints to influence their perception of an artist.
Siddharth added that constructive criticism of an actor’s work is fair, but judging them primarily because of their personal beliefs is not.

Has Speaking Out Affected His Career?
Siddharth has frequently been asked whether expressing strong opinions has cost him professional opportunities.
Responding to a similar question in an earlier interview, the actor turned the focus towards the media, suggesting that journalists themselves may understand the challenges associated with speaking freely in today’s environment.
He also made it clear that he has never sought approval before expressing his views and has no intention of changing that approach.
